Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A bride in Tennessee attached her one-month-old baby to the train of her wedding gown and dragged her down the aisle. Shona Carter-Brooks was unapologetic after getting criticized on social media, writing on her Facebook page that her baby Aubrey was "awake and well-secured" and "covered in Christ." She added, "Our one month old was awake and well secured on my train. ... So keep ya mouths running for it was just that exclusive and epic enough we made top blog way from small town Ripley, TN, and the social media doing what they do, talk!"

LOL. I knew the ethnic background of the bride once I saw who posted this.

This is no big deal. The infant appears to have been safe.

What is offensive is this woman's use of the English language. She needs to take a class in remedial English very soon.

That's just the way they talk in Tennessee. You think it's better when the states set educational policy, don't you?

Tell us about the "educational policy" in Tennessee.

How did it cause this woman to be a ----? And what would the Federal Govt do to improve it?

She talks with an accent. That doesn't make her retarded. It makes her Tennessean. You elitist city liberal!

What gives? Woman's choice, ain't it?

All the furor over what? The baby was probably safer there, with every person present staring at it as it is drug down the aisle, than in the grandparents arms. I mean, the grandparents are black, aren't they BO? [/snark]

That quote is from FB. Meaning she typed it. Please tell me how she types with that 'accent'?

When the H#)) are Blacks going to get this. These Obama times have never made this more apparent but for some reason common sense seems to be in short supply in blacks communities. Close charter schools, social and financial war on the nuclear family, open borders, high cost of consumables and yet it's a rush to pull the Dem lever.

#11 | Posted by paneocon at 2014-06-02 03:47 PM | Reply | Flag:

Common sense simply ain't as common as many of you have hoped. That's the true disconnect.

I thought this was just one idiot who did this.

Are you saying this is one of the those things that black people do all the time that white people don't know about?

She's just trying to inspire some new "dead baby" jokes. Dragging a one month old down an aisle, fontanelle and all, seems like a good place to start.

You are way too uptight about people of your own race. This was a silly gesture that made use of a goofy wedding fashion -- the long wedding gown train. There was zero chance the baby was going to be hurt sliding along a smooth floor on top of a poofy wedding gown.

You're right, she shouldn't have gotten married. Much better for the child that way.

No RCADE, she was serious. For a white person, it would be a joke. For her, it wasn't. I know what I'm talking about. Trust me, I'm black.

Your blackdar has malfunctioned. A couple with a young baby got married and incorporated the baby into the ceremony in a fun, lighthearted way. If you think this reflects badly on you or the black race, you're being more absurd than that dress.

Nothing in the bride's comments about the incident indicates it was a lighthearted joke kind of thing.

This is an outrage! When will President Obama wise up and let us build the pipelines we need to move our wedding babies safely?

#28 | Posted by visitor_ at 2014-06-03 02:34 PM | Reply | Flag:

The bride's comments to posts on Facebook were defensive, therefore not light-hearted; the gesture itself was meant to be deeply spiritual. i could't tell if the dress was white, off-white or cream color, but if it was white, good for her!

i see nothing wrong with this wedding, or negatively reflecting on the bride. To a conventional, staunch conservative (or to rabid gossips) i can see how it would be scandalous. i hope the husband has a decent (or excellent) job & is in it for the LONG haul (little bit of unintentional pun there).

#31 ~ coincidink: i just watched The Aristocrats, and the staff of The Onion had a segment in which they were categorizing & listing all the truly most repulsive acts a family might commit on each other. (Gotta admit, my favorite line is by the late George Harrison, who said they had the same gag in England, but the punchline was "We're The Royals!")

For crying out loud. It was a wedding. The whole thing was intended to be celebratory and fun. Some people are solemn about their weddings, other people try to do something not so serious. Clearly, dragging your baby on your train was an attempt to do something fun.

This is a funny story. And Boaz posted it in outrage. So of course the comments are going to be funny (except mine & some others). At least Boaz could finally appreciate some of the humor. (The story wasn't about children being killed by an escaped python, which some peeps found funny, for Pete's sake!) i do like Boaz regardless of SELDOM agreeing with him (i do agree with him sometimes which is slightly scary to me).

Too bad you weren't invited.

Rcade: Hey, I gotta say, you have some sense of humor. That whole thing with dragging the baby down the aisle was so fun an original....

Bride: Sense of humor? This was about having beautiful feelings in our hearts. Me and my baby were covered by The Blood, Turkey!

"Clearly, dragging your baby on your train was an attempt to do something fun."

Must disagree. The bride & her baby were "covered in Christ" which i assure you she doesn't take lightly. As she said to the spacebook gossips [TAKE THAT YOU HATERS!] The bride was making a statement to her church she wasn't going to be shamed for having the baby before the wedding, which some of the good people there had probably already done or tried to do.

NOW, for a funny wedding: Kim Kardashian & Kanye.

Is dragging the baby on the train something I think has class? No, not really.

Did it hurt the kid in any way, or even put the kid even slightly at risk? No.

So....

None of my business or anyone's business but theirs.

It is THEIR day. That it is not how I would do my own marriage is utterly and completely irrelevant.

I wish them a happy marriage filled with days of joy and accomplishment.
