Ann B. Davis, known for her role as Alice the housekeeper on the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, died Sunday after falling a day earlier in her home, close friend Bishop William Frey said. She was 88. Her first big break in acting was the role of Schultzy the secretary on the 1950s sitcom The Bob Cummings Show. Since 1976, Davis has lived in an Episcopal commune led by Frey, first in Denver and then in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. "I decided to sell my house in L.A. and yield control to the Lord," she told People in 1977.

My sister and brother in law went to church with her in Boerne, Texas and saw her there regularly.

There's not enough love here for Alice. Am I really one of the only people who watched episodes of this show a dozen or more times in my sad excuse for a childhood?

some notable maids butlers:
Nell, Gimme a Break
Tony, Who's the Boss?
Mr. Belvedere
Lurch, The Adams Family
Niles, The Nanny
Florence, The Jeffersons

among many, many others. Florence is my fave, by far. Alice, least fave for sure. (just too damn perky)
(bit of advice: NEVER call a girl with that name "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"; they all hate it.)
