Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

An NPR report about guns in Chicago included an all-too-real example of violence, after a burst of gunfire erupted down the street from where NPR's David Schaper was conducting an interview Wednesday. He had been speaking to a neighborhood activist when a gunman opened fire nearby. David was out reporting a story on the effort by Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel to require video recordings of every gun purchase and a limit of one gun per customer per month. The city wants to put those rules in place soon, after a federal judge overturned Chicago's long-time ban on gun shops earlier this year.

Do you hear how elitist the reporter sounds? That's why I don't listen to NPR.

I didn't hear any such thing, but I'm not surprised that your bias against NPR would have you imagining some sort of elitism.

I think everyone agrees that limiting gun purchases to one a month will help.

Really? What if the shooter plans his crime for a whole year?

What if he waits two years? He'll have more guns then he can carry.

LOL

People are absolutely correct to worry about people carrying guns: the cops, the army, the cia, fbi, etc, kill far more than idiots like these people.

The function of the propaganda isn't to end gun ownership. It is to end gun ownership of those that power doesn't like, and expand gun ownership for those that do its bidding.

Hitler disarmed the masses. He didn't disarm his thugs. That is the point.

Hmmmm...I wonder if the effin' government would observe that law if they regenerate Fast and Furious. Think about it, Toy, only law abiding citizens will be limited. Thugs and government lawbreakers will not do any limiting. Oh, wait, that's kinda redundant, isn't it?

Our masses are already disarmed compared to what the police have. That is the point gun nuts steadfastly ignore.

Yes. Some people don't buy anything all year, or even years apart, but splurge on a sale.

No person shall make an application to purchase more than one handgun within any 30-days period .
It's a mystery, right?

Irrelevant. Would you rather face knights with pitchforks or crossbows? It has always been the emperors pleasure to prefer to control military technologies. Only idiot sheeple allow it.

#17 | Posted by Shawn

In reality I'll be facing "knights" with body armor, gas masks, chemical irritants, Tasers, armored vehicles, night vision, armored dogs, sniper support, air support, C4I support, judicial support, public support, political support, and the written consent of the Commissioner of the National Football League.

At this point they could literally have no firearms at all and I still wouldn't stand a chance.

The argument you're making about the control of weapons is an anachronism in today's world. Control is no longer a matter of military power. It is achieved through financial power. The police have far deeper pockets than we ever will.

#18 | Posted by snoofy at 2014-06-01 10:33 PM | Reply | Flag: | Newsworthy 2

Yes, and they used to say that about kings and emperors as well. They still did everything that they could to control weapons technology because they knew that a populace that could fight back was a threat. Dollars will not block bullets. Your argument is just plain historically dead plain wrong.

#19 | Posted by Shawn at 2014-06-02 12:36 AM | Reply | Flag:

"Historically" is where you run into problems.
How have human rights been achieved? Through a strong central government committed to human rights.
That's the only way they've ever been achieved.

It seems like you still don't get it: Guns are no longer a threat to the empire. At least not to this empire.

We could give every American ten AK-47s the only thing that would change is the price of AK-47s would go down.

Guns are no longer a threat to the empire. At least not to this empire. Flag:Unreasonably discounts guerrilla warfare. See also 4th generation warfare.

No guns were used on 9/11. That's "4th Gen" for ya.

Guerilla... it will take a lot to get us to the needed point of lawlessness.

How many people have been enslaved by a strong centeral government? That is the way slavery of the masses is achieved.

#27 | Posted by Sniper at 2014-06-02 12:29 PM | Reply | Flag:

It is you who don't get it snoofy. If guns were not a threat to the empire, then they wouldn't be working so hard to control them. No king would allow the masses good swords. In fact they controlled who knew how to smith them(guild system, etc). The idea that 1 million unarmed men marching on Washington is equivalent to 1 million ARMED men doing the same is ludicrous, and intellectually insulting. There damned well is a difference.

1 million unarmed people marched on Washington and got a Civil Rights Act.

If 1 million armed people marched on Washington, they would get mowed down.

Keeping elementary school students safe from prozac-addled miscreants with mom's AR-15 is at present a more pressing issue than taking up arms against an imaginary slave-master government.

Of course, explaining this to a brain-washed Alex Jones apostle is pointless.

You are so right. He was calm and rational. That is so elitist. He should have yelled over the top of everyone and called them names if they didn't agree with his point of view. Also, he should have expressed a point of view. Then he could work for Fox.

Ok, this is a direct repost of my response to the article "36 shot in 36 hours in Chicago" form a while back cause this is completely relevant to THIS.

"The problem isn't guns. The problem is the south side. Crippling poverty most people can't imagine. Houses without roofs, just tarps. ---- looks like Detroit. And the rest of the region isn't so great either. Get on any train that isn't going north and look outside. For the majority of the trains things just get progressively dirtier and run down as you go. Downtown's great, one of the best places in the world. If you can afford rent... I can afford the several thousand a month but most can't.

If you waived a magic wand a Chicago and cast a "No one but cops have guns" spell on the metro area that wouldn't solve the problems that motivate people to kill. You' have to get a second wand for the drug industry. And a third for housing. And a fourth for jobs. And a fifth for cultural momentum. And a sixth for education quality. And a seventh for health care."

Never said that, but since you insist...

A million armed people marching on DC is an insurrection. I'm pretty sure the law allows the government to deal with that in whatever manner would put it down.

As a dem political contributer. You should pay closer attention to who does all the loud talking over someone else on Fox.
