Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, May 24, 2014

This week, students at DePaul University are being asked to get involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and vote on a non-binding resolution that asks the university to divest from companies that do business in the Jewish State.

"This entire campaign and entire sit-in going on in the SAC (Schmitt Academic Center) is totally unsafe for Jewish students and I have had a lot of Jewish students text me and call me today and tell me they are not comfortable walking through that part of our campus, which is really disheartening."

Accusations of intimidation tactics against the BDS movement are not new.Last month Jewish students were allegedly targeted on the New York University campus. Mock eviction notices were placed under doors in their dorm, causing Jewish students to "feel violated and unsafe." A similar incident at Northeastern University in March led to that SJP chapter being suspended.

I have often posted one of the most mystifying things I have seen in my life is the migration of anti-Jewish (by which I mean emotional and animated anti-Jewishness) migrate from the far right to the radical left as well. The link is a very interesting story and I tend to think the students have a real gripe. This is not an isolated campus phenomenon.

In Tucson, we had a group of Jewish professors, and PhD candidates that would get together and celebrate Seder. It was about the time Carters book came out.

Over the course of 4 years, I recall, the attitude really divided the table, some of the Israeli's turned hard core right wing after the Second Intifada ended. Over time though as Palestinians ramped up the rockeet attacks, and the people even in Liberal Tucson turned on Jews, the whole table turned "RightWing." One of the professors was a "professor of peace" at a large university.

But it was an interesting transition and sad really, but the similarities are frightening if you look at the history of Pre-WWII Germany and the way the public transitioned.

You find some of the same rhetoric in people here on the DR. Though the claim they just don't like Israel, I suspect they are closet Sterlings.

Disliking the policies of Israel has no connection with animosity toward Jews.

I dislike the policies of Israel, but love all my Jewish friends.

I am Goy, but to my Jewish peeps I am Mishpucha.

Try not to fall for the false implication that hostility toward Israel's policies is the same as being anti Jewish.

Zionism is a plague.

If anyone invades Israel it will be the United States.

Israeli who support the occupation, annexing and colonization of Palestine should watch their back.

Israel continues to shrink after it gave back land from being threatened by all sides.

Your view of Zionism is actually a masking of anti-semitism. Its only now coming out in its true hatred of the Jew....

What's the thought process here? By what method do you go from negative opinions toward Israel to negative opinions toward Jews in general?

One cannot believe the instances of Jew hatred going on in the US today is regarding Israel.

According to your "winnah" it wouldn't be happening.

I understand, you use Israel like Sterling used blacks on his team, to make him feel above it all.

But you are a racist and bigot underneath it all, we just don't have it on tape.

Read the article of the thread.....

Its against Jews in America, is that really hatred of Israel?

Go ahead keep thinking that..

8: Pardon me, but no. You apparently are continuing the belief that being against Israel's policies and Zionism means being against Jews. You need to get out more. And don't make accusations against someone who has shown no evidence of anti-Semitism; it makes you look like an idiot, and it is, simply, rude and offensive.

9 deepens your sin. Move on, Andrea. You have no idea what I think about Jews, and you are being deeply offensive with #9.

We live in a culture that propagates the victim attitude. Victims get attention and notoriety in our society. Should we be surprised groups like these arise? Especially amongst our nation's youth?

Once again, another poor result of Boomer parenting. Thanks folks!

I oppose religious extremism of any book as an organizing principle for any society.
While occasionally some politician will proclaim the need to drive them into the sea, such extremism typically isn't a problem within Israel proper.
It's the never-ending stream of religiously motivated Jewish settlers occupying the West Bank, under aegis of IDF, where I run into problems with Israel.
That right-wingers don't regard these squatters with greater disdain than, say, the OWS crowd is quite revealing.

Well for the posters above who make a distinction between hating Israel's government and liking Jews, why did no one comment on the divestment pressure at universities and the 'eviction notices' at NYU? Sounds as if you are turning blind eyes toward this abusiveness.

That clearly goes too far. Their "club" should get shut down for that, like at Northeastern University. Hope this helps.

If it seems that way, it's because most of this thread has been trying to repair the damage done by Mackris in #1, who trolled that if you criticize Israel it's because you hate Jews.

TY for #17, Corky. That's what I had expected a person to post....without needing a kick in the butt first.
This movement is springing from Palestinian organizations overseas, if you check the article.
It is only a targeted attack on Jewish students, whatever the pretended issues. I thinks all colleges should take notice of this clothed wolf.

They're American students, not Israelis. And nobody should be putting notes under the doors or harassing them on campus - regardless of how they feel about Israel.

I disagree with Andrea's claim that if you are critical of Israeli policy, you are anti-Jewish. I myself think the US should cut off Israel and the Palestinians but I don't support harassing jews.

Yep, that's the way it works here. You make one negative comment, even if true, about jews, judaism, zionism or isreal, etc... and you are an automatic anti-semite.

But feel free to make all the comments you want about other religions/cculturecountries, etc... There is no 'anti-' term for that.

I might sympathize with the Jewish students if a real news source reported the story, I do not ever acknowledge Breitbart as anything except crap.

I was unaware the Zionists were being removed and the land returned to Palestinian control. Is there someplace I can read about it - perhaps video would clarify your position?

ZIONISTS are offended - and that is the POINT.

You are a Zionist, right?

What are the pretend issues? That "Jewish students are under attack"? That the article explains what the divestment from corporations who further annex and destroy Palestine means? The barbed wire surrounding Palestinian towns and equipment, guns, vehicles and newly paved Israeli-only roads inside of Palestine has to come from someplace.

Israeli who support the occupation, annexing and colonization of Palestine should watch their back.

Why wouldn't those children have interest in divesting from companies that support Israel's annexation and colonization of Palestine? Are they Zionist first or American citizens who believe in a free and open democracy? If being opposed to the policies of Israeli governments is "anti-semitism" then the Israeli peace movement is also "anti-semitic".

Apparently 49% of Israelis are antisemitic.

Netanyahu still leads the pack of leading Israeli politicians in public opinion, with a relatively high favorability rating of 51%

It might be as high as 61%!

Netanyahu's job-performance rating has declined. When asked how they rated his performance as prime minister, 34% of voters give him a positive rating while 61% give him a negative one
