The City plans to attack economic segregation in its affordable housing plan -- placing the poor in middle-class neighborhoods and the more affluent in high-poverty spots.

Housing Preservation and Development Commissioner Vicki Been said the plan to build 80,000 new affordable apartments and preserve 120,000 units would create a more diverse city.

"We really have to make economic diversity a cornerstone of that plan," she said at a City Council budget hearing Wednesday.

"That means that in some neighborhoods that have mostly middle or upper-income housing, that we would need to put affordable housing at the very lowest income," she said.

De Blasio's executive budget boosted the housing department's capital cash to $3.1 billion, up from $1.9 billion in his January preliminary budget, to help pay for the ambitious proposal.

You can't make this stuff up! Forcing people to live where the left decides is a negation of all property rights.

Socialism = the idea that the non wealthy should benefit from the same corruption that the wealthy already have.

Welfare = handouts that don't go to the rich.

Wait, so the City plans to attack socialism?

Anyway, everyone will still get to live wherever they want to live. It's not like the City is going to force anyone to move.

With more diversity, people have more options of where they would like or need to be.

I'm no New Yorker, but I know that New York City was never meant to be a city of enclaves.

Neighborhoods. A melting pot.

Its always been a city of enclaves...... its not on purpose its evolution.

Just because you are human doesn't give you a "get out of evolution" card.

The only time the wealthy will mingle with the poor in NYC is in a cab or then their table is bused.

Great way to plunge peoples home values even more. They tried to put up a set of section 8 houses at the end of our block where a school used to be. Needless to say the outcry of the angry homeowners who homes value would drop even further and lawyers getting involved nipped that in the butt thank god.
