Intense flames from a brush fire burning in Carlsbad, Calif., have jumped the road and have prompted mandatory evacuations. AlertSanDiego reports it has notified 11,600 homes, businesses and cell phones to evacuate in the city of Carlsbad. Resident Diane Wood said, "It's rather threatening. Everyone is coming out of their businesses and looking as the smoke is approaching their area."

Wow. That's got to be the only part of Carlsbad left that doesn't have houses on it.

That's right over the hill. It's 100 degrees and the wind is howling.

A friend of mine lives in the path of that fire right by the interstate.

It creates it's own weather.

My step-son went to Humboldt. Been there, done that.
Ever been to Sunken City?

Technically Humboldt is not the Lost Coast. But, sometimes I think it is even more Lost.

The Sunken City...New Orleans?? J/K

No I haven't been to the Sunken City (San Pedro). Looks very cool. Is it worth a visit? When I visit my brother in So Cal next time I will make him take me there.

If it doesn't burn down this year.

Already looks to be a very bad one for fires.

"Technically Humboldt is not the Lost Coast. "

Right, but we saw a lot of the sights when we'd go visit. Trinity is cool.

We are gearing up for possibly one of the worst fire seasons ever in CA.

Actually, we may have nothing left to burn by summer.

California is dangerous. If your house doesn't burn down it will get toppled by an earthquake. Don't move here. Go to Texas and enjoy the beautiful views of oil derricks and cattle.

"Hope Legoland is safe."

It's fine. It's shut down due to power outages, but it's north of the airport in an area with hardly any brush. Looks like the fire is under control at this point.

The county has declared a state of emergency. And "still out of control" as of 4:30 p.m. Schools cancelled for the next two days. Not looking good.

Still evacuating areas of San Marcos.

Seven fires ongoing simultaneously. Speculation that many of them are arson is beginning to spread amongst authorities.

I hope everyone is ok.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to have a disaster recovery plan and review what you would do in similar circumstances.

Have a to-go pack (make your own or buy one) and a prearranged meeting / contact plans.

Thanks Donnerboy! We may not agree on political things, but appears you have a kind heart as I think I have as well. There's hope for us after all here in DR land.
