Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A huge demonstration against a planned waste incinerator in Hangzhou, China, turned violent Saturday with protesters overturning and setting fires to police cars, leaving 10 demonstrators and 29 police officers injured, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. The protest is the latest indication that China's increasingly affluent residents are willing to challenge the government on health and environmental issues, the New York Times reports.

I always respected the Chinese peoples willingness to protest, they are a great culture. It is shame they are not studied more in the k-12 systems.

People the world over are learning that the establishment never works in the interest of average people. They work for the oligarchs, bankers, media elites and those in gated communities along with their political bribes, while average people always get shafted....be it Mexico, China or the USA.

"leaving 10 demonstrators and 29 police officers injured" The cops only managed to injure 10 demonstrators, the cops in Chicago should train them

The function is and has always been to protect the powerful from the powerless; and then blame the protestors for class warfare.

"...the establishment never works in the interest of average people."

It's not designed to.

Once you bury garbage it becomes nearly impossible to control its long term impact on the environment. Yes, burning garbage introduces some contaminants into the air, which may slowly wend their way to the bottom of the ocean, but just burying it is worse in the long run, if it contaminates the groundwater. Garbage burning is a pay as you go plan. I'm not suggesting burning everything. It should be integrated into a recycling program.

The absurdity of a nation with 1.3 billion residents having a centralized economy and governmental system is beyond ridiculous. If communism or socialism ever stands a chance of succeeding, it will be at the local levels or in nations with much much smaller populations.
