Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

China has drawn up contingency plans for the collapse of the regime in North Korea, including measures to contain an influx of refugees and prevent unrest from spilling over the countries' porous border. China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) devised the measures last summer, according to Kyodo news agency, which obtained leaked documents detailing the plan. China would detain North Korean leaders and set up refugee camps along the border, each able to accommodate up to 1,500 people. John Delury, a North Korea analyst at Yonsei University in Seoul, said, "The PLA is doing what militaries do -- they draw up contingencies."

That's good news. It is responsible for China to take precautions since there's no way NK can survive long on the direction they are going.

All that is for public consumption but I do not believe the Chinese would wait until the population is in the streets, N. Korea has nukes. More likely, when they feel the time is right they will speak to the N. Korean military and instruct them on how they must behave if they hope to have a future and thereby undermine Kim Jung Un's ability to wage nuclear war.

Yes, Danni. You are right. But it is an improvement over the old days when China would mass troops on the border to make a point.

You mean as the Russians are currently doing in regards to Ukraine?

Exactly, Danni. Ever think you'd see the day China was acting more civilly than Russia?

Good on China.

"N. Korea has nukes."

Maybe. I'd say that is still pretty questionable.

Very questionable.

I find it odd that we have known for years that Iran is machining up for one, but we didn't know this about N Korea? They say suddenly one day they have one and everyone believes it?

Yes, I guess it's possible they bought one somewhere, but didn't they have a couple of duds during test firings?

"...but didn't they have a couple of duds during test firings?"

As far as I know that's all they have had.

I'm pretty sure if they had an actual weapon they would have demonstrated it to the world by now.

Has anyone noticed that in the pictures that feature KJU and nK military leadership, the officers all look they have been around since the Korean War? Are they really that old, you think, or is that a result of the hard living that comes with being a Nork?

"North Korea had been suspected of maintaining a clandestine nuclear weapons development program since the early 1980s when it constructed a plutonium-producing Magnox nuclear reactor at Yongbyon."

but didn't they have a couple of duds during test firings?

It is a matter of opinion as to whether they were duds as North Korea claims they are "lighter, miniaturized atomic bombs" but the last dud registered 4.9 on the Richter scale.

I am pretty sure if they get one onto a missile we will have to take it pretty seriously....dud or not.

Seems like a good idea for all that N Korea should collapse and the perverted dictator in charge neutered.
