President Barack Obama declared this week's botched execution in Oklahoma "deeply disturbing" and directed the attorney general on Friday to review how the death penalty is applied in the United States. "In the application of the death penalty in this country, we have seen significant problems -- racial bias, uneven application of the death penalty, you know, situations in which there were individuals on death row who later on were discovered to have been innocent because of exculpatory evidence," Obama said. "And all these, I think, do raise significant questions about how the death penalty is being applied."

The federal government has effectively imposed its own moratorium on carrying out executions since 2010 while trying to figure out issues surrounding the drug cocktail commonly used for lethal injection.

Obama does know something about proper executions.

A pair of Somali Pirates proved this just weeks after he was sworn in.

Use drones to perform executions.

Or US Marine sharp shooters like Bush and Co. did in Iraq. Nothing like beheading a lesser armed soldier from a safe distance to make you feel all patriotic.

Taking care of evil doers is ugly bizness

Who cares if this man suffered, what this man did too that poor woman was horrible. She was shot twice and buried alive. If you want a for sure way to kill them every time, use a 7.62 or larger bullet to his heart. Have it set up to a Big red button so the family of the victims can say bye. Funny how obama is worried about this mans constitutional rights then the rest of America.

Still trying to give him credic for that, the special forces on the ground have full authority to dispatch those bastards without a phone call from Obama, when any Americans life is at stake in a situation like that the on site ranking commander can order it without permission from the WH. Next thing you will give credic to him is Osama death, last I checked it was special forces that decide to kill Osama not capture him.

Congratulations on calling him a man and not needing to dehumanize him.

Some people see a stark difference between a man killing a man and the government killing a man.

...worried about this mans constitutional rights then[sic] the rest of America.

Excuse me but when the condemned is strapped on the gurney what constitutional rights of "the rest of America" are on the table?

Name it by section or amendment.

It is sad our government cares more for the rights of criminals then the rest of us. Its a sad day when people feel sorry for this man when he raped the 11 year old girl, shot her twice and buried her alive. If they want a 100% promised quick outcome use a high powered rifle round. I would not have any issue with them rotting in jail the rest of their lives if it was a hard sentience. No internet, no tv, no books, no games, no rec time. Put those in there in work prison run only by the state, if I am paying for it make them earn their existence. Also if a person is released and us done their time, give them their rights back. If what they did was so bad you loose your rights, why in the hell are they even let out to commit crimes again.

The government says he must have a peaceful death, yet they continue to ignore the rest of our rights and say it is for our safety. I will start giving a damn about this sickos rights wheb our government respects ours.

Should I feel sorry for you?
As best I can tell, you're the same as him.
A big fan of killing people.
"But he deserves it, for what he is!"
So did she, according to him, at least.

But this is all beside the point.
There are steps we can take to protect ourselves if another individual is intent on killing us.
But there's nothing that stands in the way of a government intent on killing us, not for long at least.
That's why I don't think the government should have that power.

To be fair, as we have empowered our government to kill those in custody, we should get in the habit of doing what China does to their corrupt officials.

Both.

Obama's not "wussing out" on capital punishment. His is actually a fairly well thought through articulation of the position that while you don't like it - and don't go for broad applicability - some people's actions merit the death penalty.

On a related topic, there is - or, in my view, should be - a difference between society's justice and revenge.

Virtually no one. No one cares about this man individually suffering. What he did was horrible and he wasn't protesting his innocence on the way to the grave.

What's wrong with it is that this happens to innocent people as well. Which is also where it does step on every single citizen's constitutional rights.

Guess what? I don't have a problem with Obama being charge of the military. Ya see Obama didn't operate on the advice of a disgruntled Iraqi ex-pat cab driver and launch a war under false pretenses and pretend altruism... meanwhile letting the baby brother of his former partner in a failed and defunct get away after he financed and succeeded in the first attack on US soil in the nation's history.

I can tell that in your peabrain you don't see a difference but there is a huge difference between coming in and having to mop a mess from the stupidity of your predecessor and the one committing the actual stupidity celebrated by his constituents whose mental maturity was demonstrated with their adolescent obsession with someone else receiving oral sex. Ya see Bush used US military to synch up oil deals and insisted that it wasn't about oil and used young men in tax payer funded military as hired thugs without telling them the truth.

BTW....that is why republiclowns are throwing a fit for being put in time out and from your corner you go on and on about Benghazi or whatever trying to drum up scandals that match republiclown capacity for over corruption. in my lifetime there have been 5 republiclown presidents. Two left office in shame. Two are tied to the most indicted, convicted and flagrantly corrupt administrations in US history. One of the later has been lionized and in the ironic twist of criticizing Obama's policies it is pointed out that the clown brigades favorite sock puppet hailed as a hero did far worse. The Bozos, Chuckos, Crustys Hobos and Boofos end up showing they are legends in their own minds.

"Obama's not a wuss. Just a right-winger in Democrat's clothing."

I was convinced during the 2008 election that, aside from being the less obnoxious choice, Obama was and is, essentially, a slightly-left-center politician. The plutocrats failed to appreciate the acts FDR performed (and didn't perform) that kept the system - and their role in it - viable during the Great Depression; similarly, today, they don't appear to fully understand the truth underlying Obama's statement to fat cats that "I'm the guy who stands between you and the pitchforks."

For some reason they have to think he's a Marxist. I think it's because they enjoy foaming at the mouth.

For example "government takeover of health care." The government hasn't taken over anything. They've made a few modest changes to policy and created a new market that states can opt out of if they choose. They can opt out of the Medicaid expansion if they choose too. This has to be the most velvet-gloved takeover in the history of tyranny.

I suppose these same people would tell you the existence of the National Institute of Standards and Technology is a government takeover of industry. Funny how I never hear NIST should be privatized; I suppose right-wingers are simply ignorant of its existence. Why should the government get to say how much a kilogram weighs in the first place? Let the market decide!

I agree Snoofy, but the man didn't hold up his end of the social contract. Given that he didn't hold it up, its a good idea to have the government handle the executions. Otherwise we go round and round, more of an honor society than a civil one.
