Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Many a pulse was sent aflutter yesterday with the eye-watering Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcement. Abrams' orchestrated the whole thing to a tee with this hit-and-run revelation coming four days before we all expected. It was an announcement geared at dazzling us and it did just that, aside from, regrettably, one glaring detail.

In a casting announcement which contained 13 faces, young and old, black and white, from Ireland, England, Sweden and the U.S., only two of them were female: Carrie Fischer, of course, and the relative unknown Daisy Ridley.

as long as there are a plethora of Jar-Jar esque characters that can be sold as merchandise...

everybody wins!

Just like Star Trek there are absolutely no homosexual beings = heteronormacy, even into the far far future. Not even a land of imagination will permit the concept of sexual interests outside of prince rescuing princess.

Even Peter Jackson won't include us in fantasy, and there is ZERO chance of Abrams. I'm afraid we will always be relegated to myth inside of the myths.

If he was it was an insult to the gay community.

Lucas has always been a proponent of diversity in his Star Wars films. Yes, Leia was a sex object as well as a woman of power, but she was there.

And Jar Jar was an insult to fiction.

Redlight, this is a long time ago though.

There should be more women in the Star Wars universe. Princesses, kick-ass Jedi... why not?

From Family Guy: It's A Trap!

Peter/Han Solo: "Check it out, the only other chick in the galaxy."
Lois/Princess Leia: "I don't like her."

Get used to this ----. Everyone is a misogynist. It's Clinton 16 prep.

How sad and pathetic are the gays whining about no light sabre touches in the galaxy far far away? Go watch ace and gary and drink a Zima.

My point being, it isn't really a vision of any advanced civilization, merely a reflection of existing norms.

8: From what my children tell me, there are female Jedi in The Clone Wars.

They're movies for kids. Very little sexuality of any kind. How do you know Lando and Chewbacca and every single Jedi weren't gay anyway?

Maybe alot of these people are gay but they don't feel the need to form an identity around it because these advanced civilizations have developed beyond petty identity politics.

I thought the guy who painted his face red and black looked pretty gay.

Lando is clearly a ladies man. Chewie is asexual. Some of the Jedi are clearly straight; others, who knows?

Chewie is asexual.

Chewie has a son Lumpawaroo how could he be asexual? Are you suggesting that he and Mallatobuck don't do it wookie style and that Lumpy is adopted?

Hmmm I think you have the 2 on the wrong side of that equation and you meant to say halved.

18: Indeed.

And I base my knowledge of Chewbacca only on the original films.

There was a kids book staring Lumpy we read to the kids.

Lando was obviously putting a smoke screen at first. The only woman you see him show any interest in is Leia, who is clearly with Han and he had already sold out to the Empire. And that's only when you first see him. In the next movie, he has an alien lifemate who appears to be male, with whom he destroys the 2nd Death Star.
