Rep. Michael Grimm (R-New York) was indicted on fraud charges in connection with a Manhattan fast-food restaurant he owns, according to court documents unsealed on Monday. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors said Grimm's health food restaurant, Healthalicious, under-reported wages paid to workers, many of whom did not have legal status in the United States, and concealed from federal and New York state authorities more than $1 million in gross receipts. Grimm is a former Marine and FBI agent elected to Congress in 2010 as part of a wave of conservative "Tea Party" Republicans.

In January, Grimm threatened a TV reporter with violence after he was asked about a Justice Department investigation of illegal fundraising during his 2010 campaign. Grimm walks off the live interview as he's being asked a question on the subject, then comes back and says, "Let me be clear to you: If you ever do that to me again, I'll throw you off this f------ balcony." When the reporter Michael Scotto replies it's a valid question, Grimm says, "No, no. You're not man enough, you're not man enough. I'll break you in half, like a boy."

more hypocrisy in American politics. If he is guilty, I hope gets some prison time, but he probably won't.

Now that's the kind of fiscal conservative this country needs.

And the way he stood up to that reporter, that's real leadership. Al Qaeda take notice! He doesn't go around apologizing for America like the current Community Organizer in Chief.

Rich Tea Party Rep underpaying workers, hiring illegals, and dodging taxes. What was that about the Tree of Liberty and Tea Party being so grass roots?

I hope he gets convicted just because he is an obvious jerk, whatever his politics.

This guy is considered a job creator. Great jobs--employing illegals, stiffing them on pay and benefits, working them off the clock, etc. What a way to 'put Americans back to work'!

"Healthalicious, under-reported wages paid to workers, many of whom did not have legal status in the United States, and concealed from federal and New York state authorities more than $1 million in gross receipts. "

He is the perfect tea party candidate.

Wow, a million in gross receipts? That's $90,000 in sales tax alone. Throw in another $350,000 in federal taxes and $90,000 in state taxes. That is a lot of moolah.

Add in willful failure to pay penalties and interest and the penalties from the DOL and the total will be over the million he defrauded the government.

And this guy still has the balls to run for re-election?

Well, he has yet to be convicted of anything, but yes, the allegations look really bad.

A 20 count indictment is not good.

Scarborough claims that Grimm is not a TP'er?! That's the platform he ran on in 2010, where the initial allegations of campaign finance criminality began.

Yesterday he pleaded "not guilty" on 20 all counts of indictment on mail, wire and tax fraud charges:
YouTube
Rep. Michael Grimm Pleads Not Guilty to Fraud
"And this political witch hunt is designed to do a couple things, but first and foremost assassinate my character and remove me from office."

This is the face of the FBI, the Marines and TP Republicans. Apparently he hates paying taxes and loathes America. How did he ever get away with the racist, violent and abusive manner he ever conducts those prior jobs? The more we learn about Grimm the clearer the face of the Tea Party is become.

Why doesn't Scarborough mention that Grimm is out on $400,000 bail?

Republican SCUM.

If this guy is the face of the FBI, the Marines and TP Republicans than Filner is the face of OWS, the Left, and Progressive Democrats.

Don't be an ass.

So, there's not an ounce of decency within any elected Republican or within anybody who votes Republican.

Nice.

Can you point to a Republican in office that I can agree with, look up to or otherwise find pleasant, trustworthy and forthright? People who would vote in someone of that caliber might not be entirely wrongheaded.

Btw, it isn't just appearances that matter.

"Don't ignore the fact that Grimm is a hard-line bigot, money-siphoning tax-evading Tea Party rep and his roid-raging is painting a rather ugly picture of not only his history, but the organizations he has represented. Particularly as an FBI agent Grimm appears to be power-mad and racist beyond belief."

I thought these threads were intended for discussion.

No, these threads are about judging groups of people based on what a few of them do and "proving" that all people who are within those groups share the same ideas exactly (except for whatever group that person identifies with, in which case it is perfectly ok to distance oneself from a particular person in that group). Haven't you learned anything?
