A soldier hid in her car to avoid saluting the flag and then flaunted it on Instagram, the Army Times reports. Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, posted a selfie under the account sheffeynation with the caption, "This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag, keep all your 'thats so disrespectful/howrude/etc.' comments to yourself cuz, right now, IDGAFFFF." She later apologized after the photo went viral.

Cavorting around a casket is disgraceful. But not saluting the flag is just refusing to engage in patriotic fretishism.

She is a poor soldier at best. If you volunteer, ya kinda have to be ready to 'get with the program'.

If she hides from a simple, painless part of her duty, how can her fellows have confidence that she will perform the really hard part of a soldier's job?

Moron thinks she's in high school.

This is nothing new. When on post I was amused at the number of soldiers getting off duty, as 5:00 (17:00) approaches they would dash into the liquor store so they would be under cover and not have to listen to the bugle and do the mandatory salute. All over post people would be
engaged inside. She is truly a sap for displaying this and I hope her NCO has some creative corrections in store for her.
Being not part of twitter nation, anyone know what IDGAFFFF means?

"Being not part of twitter nation, anyone know what IDGAFFFF means?"

First part is "I Don't Give A". Don't know what all the Fs are except the last one which would be the F-bomb.

Pretty funny that she pre-emptively said she doesn't care about the backlash and now she's singing a different tune.

I, myself have avoided the 1700 flag from time to time. Hanging out in the store or a building until it's over. I would even hasten to say almost every soldier has done it.

But her attitude is what's making this news. I see she's back tracking now, but her arrogant "I don't give a ____" attitude is the sole reason she should be punished. She most likely will never see E-7. I'm sure her squad leader or commander is taking this into their own hands.

I don't believe she should be put out for the act itself. It's her attitude that needs readjusting..

And actually, she hasn't been taught right, because if you are in your car on post when the flag goes off, you are supposed to get out of your car and salute. Must not have been any other soldiers around to correct her.

every day on the news we see actions speak louder than words (and mantras) so democrats hatred of, and attack on, the foundations of this country is not only sickening, its indefensible. we are more like a repressive communist state with each passing day.

Which re-education camp should we send her to?

It's not idolatry, it's just a sign of respect. All the idolatry is reserved for the Obamites' worship of the messiah who "...was sent by God to lead us."

"Which re-education camp should we send her to?"

It appears she has already spent way too much time in a "progressive" re-education camp somewhere.

So she's smart enough to refuse patriotic fetishishm, but not smart enough to refuse to sign up for the military, where she'll be used as a pawn to secure the profits of bankers and oil companies?

Anyone who enlists these days has blinders on their eyes and is a sucker for propaganda about heroism and defending their country. The only thing you're defending is exxon's stock price.

I doubt this "avoidance" is uncommon, but the fact that she feels the need to "tell the world" makes her look like an adolescent craving attention.

One reason our 1% loves it when the economy sucks is that then lots of people have no choice but to join the military that protects 1% money. It's the only job those people can find.

It's just not as much fun being an aristocracy if you don't have lots of serfs to feel superior to. Sigh.

This whole instragram thing is going cause a lot of people problems. Before instagram, stupid people were only known to those around them. Now, people can share their stoopid with the entire world...instantly. Listen dumb people: Just because you think it doesn't mean you should tweet it.

Seriously. Sheesh.

I'll take it a step further. The flag is a symbol, not an idol. it is a symbol of our country and every citizen within it. The respect a service person, and a private citizen, gives to the flag during certain ceremonies is showing their respect to our country and everyone within it, all brothers and sisters. It is an honor to show that respect when the opportunity presents itself.

These facebook idiots are making it easy for them. This is what you get when standards are cut and anyone who can breath is allowed into the military. The new armys way of using soft gloves that have to be used now allows this type of BS to continue to happen.

#29 | Posted by zack991 at 2014-02-26 06:08 PM | Reply | Flag:

While the shrinking army will make such losers less common, the sheer number of recruits the army takes in makes it the least 'selective' of the selective services. The loser the article is about is part of the result of that.

But such fail attitudes are hardly unique to losers in the Army. I've seen a few in the Air Force and have no doubt they can found in all services. On a positive note, such fail attitudes are not common, at least not in the Air Force.

A bit of laziness on Flag etiquette is not uncommon. If not flagrant, such laziness is rarely an issue. But that's not what she did. A soldier posting open contempt of the flag on social media is deserving of punishment of stupidity and unprofessional behavior.

Old recruiter joke: When you get in the service, you see some morons and losers. You may wonder what we recruiters were thinking. At that time, I want you to think of the ones we turned away.....

When I was enlisted my buddies and I would see an officer and immediately get about a 10ft gap between the lot of us...so the officer had to return each of our individual salutes. It was about the mildest way to harass an officer without getting in trouble.
When I was an officer I used to cross streets just to avoid returning salutes. I also knew that the enlisted bastards were trying to set me up for the multiple salute bs...
Ducking the flags was beyond common place. Seriously, it can be pretty ------- hot standing out there sometimes...---- that ----.

In the Air Force, if you're in your car, you don't salute. Is the army different.

And everyone does this, in one form or another. Leave the building before 1655 or after 1705. It sucks getting caught in the parking lot with a bag of groceries at 1700.

**** Only someone who wants to "Aid and Abet" a large Criminal Organization would join the US Military!

#35 | Posted by AntiCadillac at 2014-02-27 01:46 AM | Reply | Flag:

Timing when you leave the building to avoid getting caught outside is minor laziness.

Flagrantly disrespecting the flag is whole different magnitude of the issue.

Posting the disrespect on social media is just stupidity.

I'm a 22 year veteran, but I NEVER 'liked' ceremony. But even in my first few years I manned up and did it when it was right because it was part of what I agreed to when I joined. After my first few years not only did I man up to ceremony when I had to, but I honestly RESPECTED the ceremony as the important thing that it is.

She does not like getting caught by the 1700 Flag ceremony? Fine, a lot of military people don't. But you do it because you agreed to when you joined. And hopefully, mature a bit and respect it.
