Ants build raft-like structures out of their colonies during floods by putting baby ants at the bottom because they're the most buoyant, according to research published this week in the journal PLOS ONE. Researcher Jessica Purcell, an author of the paper, writes, "We expected that individuals submerged on the base of the raft would face the highest cost, so we were astonished to see the ants systematically place the youngest colony members in that positions. Further experiments revealed that the brood are the most buoyant members of the society and that rafting does not decrease their survival; thus, this configuration benefits the group at minimal cost."

Ants are one of the most alarmingly adaptable larger organisms. What most people fail to recognize is that 99% of all ants, termites and mosquitoes they interact with are female, not just their queen. Males are almost exclusively utilized for breeding and are produced in deliberately limited numbers.

Not that mosquitoes have a "queen" per se, other than Ann Coulter of course, but they really are risking their entire brood with each successful engorgement. The main difference between conservative parasites and the natural, God-created ones is that mosquito are actually quite bravely attempting to preserve their genetic lineage and not spray it all over our faces.

I think I can safely say that baby boomers are past the breedable age... except perhaps the males with their little blue pills and some simple minded gen x,y or z
