Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 20, 2014

After three teens broke into her home to rob it, a Detroit woman home alone with her children confronted them with a rifle, firing it at them as they fled back outside. The incident was caught on surveillance video. The woman said, "I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house. They said 'no, you don't' so I shot off the first round. I wasn't feeling anything at the moment, I got scared afterwards." Detroit Police Chief James Craig said, "She did the right thing." Three suspects were arrested in the incident.

Good for her, and good for the cops that were able to find them.

No other class of weapon would have done the trick?

That's a 9mm hi point carbine.

#5 | Posted by soheifox at 2014-02-19 05:01 PM | Reply | Flag:

It is technically an "assault weapon" but it's only slightly more powerful than a 9mm pistol.

Meanwhile, an SKS is completely legal under the "assault weapons" ban.

I was wondering what it was, didn't look like it was well cared for, but apparently still shoots.

My brother in law has a stock hi-point. What a POS. Nasty trigger, just a thin piece of metal with a long heavy pull and the cheap molded plastic that holds it all together (forgrip, receiver, pistol-grip handle and stock) separates slightly on each aimed shot...just enough to grab your beard and rip out a few hairs.

That's where the argument is lost on me. I have trouble with laws and arguments based on emotion rather than logic.

Mini 14's are my favorite example. Change the stock and add a pistol grip, make it black instead of brown, and change nothing else, rate of fire, caliber, etc and two rifles that function exactly the same are treated differently based on cosmetics because of emotion.

Makes no sense to me.

He must have one with an after market stock OR one of the mid 90's 9mm models. Mine's a .45 and been rock solid since I got it.

As for the "didn't look well cared for" part? For some reason they all can get a bit rusty on the outside for the first year if you even leave them outside overnight. After a while it stops happening. Real head scratcher, that.

incidentally, if he sends it into the factory they'll repair whatever's broken at no charge (again, my guess is it's not as stock as he thinks it is). Hi Point are one of the last companies native to the US that give a crap, and have done a lot to improve their quality since the days they were just another Lorcin factory.

#9 | Posted by Diablo at 2014-02-20 01:30 AM | Reply | Flag:

Considering most .22 revolvers used for home defense use the .22 WMR chamber, I'd expect running from one to be a very good idea.

That said, I'd run from a .22lr as well. Macho idiocy to think a .22lr is just as dangerous as an airsoft popgun.

Yah, it's the 9mm. It's where the stock halves are joined. Basically on every shot opens the gap just enough to catch hair. :) I think he ended up putting a sleeve around it tho I still think he's not done anything with the trigger.

Sucks on the rust part, and it is weird that it stops after a while, couldn't tell with his as the plastic covers just about everything. Will have to remember to tell him to take a look under it, may be a rusty mess under it.

I'm in same agreement on the .22 macho thing as well. 22s can kill just as easily, just may take longer for you to die. :)

Guns compelled these three guys to engage in a home invasion? I guess I missed that part in the story, snoofy. Can you C&P the text that backs up your allegation? Was there someone holding a gun to these guys' heads forcing them to do it, or what?

At times I really wonder where people come up with this bizarre stuff.

#23 | Posted by goatman at 2014-02-20 06:26 PM | Reply | Flag: | Newsworthy 1

The elites and oligarchs want Americans disarmed. They do not want a political force of average working and middle class that can influence and offset the power of their wealth.

That's the way it is and the oligarchs that own the media, the minority of anti gun liberals, and their Party know exactly what they are doing by convincing their little puppets to do their bidding.

Every fascist totalitarian influenced government from Commie Soviets, to WW2 Germany, Italy has followed these same PR rules. Disarm the masses and then execute the unarmed resistance.

Beaten and stabbed, but not shot, apparently no firearms involved at all.

So, in this case, was it the knives that caused the problem or was it the choice of the individuals involved?

Not saying that if he had a weapon it would have helped, I'm not a fortune teller, but the police sure weren't around to do anything to prevent it.

As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

"Disarm the masses and then execute the unarmed resistance."

You mean kinda like the Bolsheviks did in Moscow?

"Moscow fell, for example, not from a lack of weapons to defend it, but from the lying guile of the Reds. Ten thousand Reds took Moscow and were opposed only by some few hundreds of officer cadets and their instructors. Even then the battle was fierce and losses high. However, in the city alone, at that time, lived over 30,000 military officers (both active and retired), all with their own issued weapons and ammunition, plus tens of thousands of other citizens who were armed. The Soviets promised to leave them all alone if they did not intervene. They did not and for that were asked afterwards to come register themselves and their weapons: where they were promptly shot."

This is why we have the second amendment. It's also why there are so many who would like to see it go away. The outcome of the Russian civil war might have turned out very differently if those 30k retired miitary officers had intervened. YOu'll never be able to fully control an armed soceity.

I have heard that a 22 shot to the head is more effective than any other method of killing someone. Something about it has enough force to get thru one side of the skull, but not the other, so it bounces around in the skull and scrambles the brain.

#32 "You mean kinda like the Bolsheviks did in Moscow?"

Bolsheviks / Communists are certainly an example. They were experts at guile, propaganda and media manipulation. Their propaganda claimed they were for the people. In the end they were really for advancing the totalitarian power of their own group, and in the process they carried out the Ukrainian/Russian Holocaust that killed many millions average Russians. Most average Russians weren't armed except with farm implements.

Large numbers of newcomer Russians with family ties to Bolsheviks migrated to the USA in the 20th century and have found positions of prominence in the USA government, Senate and Congress, with many leading the charge to disarm Americans.

An organized minority can rule a nation absolutely, but only if they disarm the citizenry first.

When it comes to this event, you can't ignore the people, and you can't ignore that they had guns. Both the actors and their armaments are crucial parts of the story.

Anybody saying it's just one or the other -- regardless of which one -- is playing the Devil's Advocate. They differ in opinion over who's the Devil in need of an advocate.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Straw men are not very good with guns.

The answer to your question is I'd prefer to live in a society where being shot at isn't on my list of realistic concerns in the first place.

I'd prefer to have a human rights society for protection. That's going to protect me a lot better than a gun. It also protects me from many more things than a gun can.
