Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 13, 2014

Alabama state Rep. Alvin Holmes (D-Montgomery) said on the state House floor during discussion of a bill on land surveying that he doesn't like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas because "he's married to a white woman" Holmes, who is black, then said this when questioned by a reporter: "I said I don't like him at all because he is an Uncle Tom. I said some people might say I didn't like him because he was married to a white woman." Reporter Tim Lockette of the Anniston Star said that Holmes told him he made up a false claim about Thomas being a failed land surveyor so his floor remarks wouldn't be ruled off-topic.

"A black person's place is with the Democratic party. We may be the party of tolerance, but we will not tolerate blacks who don't know their place and keep themselves there"

The Democrats

Another Harvard-educated Dem in Minnesota called him "Uncle Thomas" last year, then pretended not to know that "uncle tom" was an offensive term.

Just another day for the party of racism.

White leftists love to pretend they know what it's like to be black, from the South, and how offensive terms like "uncle tom" are to a black person.

But in reality, they don't give a crap. It's a conservative black taking that abuse and it doesn't count.

After all.......all blacks owe the left. To not be a leftist makes them subhuman anyway.

Yet still he disparages Clarence Thomas for having a white wife (admittedly he recanted when his feet were held to the fire) and calls him an "uncle Tom", knowing how it feels.

Oops, my bad. I forget it's different rules for the proggies. It looks like I don't know my place, either. LOL

It's not faux, it's simply balanced. As long as you're okay with the other side being guilty of it, go ahead and extrapolate away. Doesn't make the behavior logical by any means, however. So please, extrapolate all you like!

Clinton is a proggy, a dirty proggy. Therefore, it's easy for Repubs to extrapolate his dirty, immoral behavior to all proggies, which has been done frequently as of late with Three ------ Hillary approaching campaign mode.

I suppose I could have used one of the proggies who support late term abortions, but the Right seems so much more indignant about Billy's decades old behavior.

"Believe in God"

"Own a gun"

Plenty of Democrats own guns. Liberals, too.

"Believe that illegal immigration does more harm to the country than good"

Who ever said that illegal immigration is GOOD for the country?

"Believe that parents know better how to take care of their children than the "village" does."

Broad-brush much?

"Believe that life begins at conception."

I have no idea about that one. I don't know if I know anyone personally who believes that.

"Believe that opportunity looks a lot like hard work"

Plenty of Democrats, and liberals, believe that.

"Believe that a person should be judged on the content of their character and not the color of their skin or gender or sexual orientation."

Ditto.

OK, how about Andre Carson (D) stating that the Tea Party members of congress want to see blacks hanging from trees?

Or Biden, saying "They wanna put y'all back in chains."

Or Garafalo labeling the entire Tea Party as "Racist, ---------- rednecks."

Do you want me to start digging up all sorts of racist quotes coming from lefties and the utter lack of any kind of condemnation of those comments from the left?

Recently, the head of the NAACP called the only black Senator a "Ventriloquist's dummy."

When challenged the NAACP doubled-down on the smear.

Rcade: Just curious -- when was the last time you directed the same comment to reinheitsgebot on any of the dozens of threads he has put up over the years about republican "organizers" or dogcatchers, or podunk mayors when caught in a tryst or other lame act of malfeasance? It seems you apply your sharp tongue to mid-level pols (like the good state rep in this story) but ignore the very low level ones or the very high (Biden, e.g.).

You claim you aren't biased, but you seem to have a thing against state reps -- at least in this particular case. I could be completely wrong, but I strongly suspect that you would not have been as vociferous in your defense of the perp in question had he been a republican. I've never defended Holmes. He's obviously an idiot who has grown stupid after 40 years of winning his state House seat.

You are completely wrong, by the way. The way I treat stories about obscure state politicians has nothing to do with the party they belong to. I would've said this guy was obscure whether he was Democrat or Republican.

The reason I put "State Pol" in headlines is because state politicians are usually obscure figures. It takes a lot for them to be newsworthy. Here, Holmes' comments were so bigoted they deserved to be on the front page.

You're accusing me of bias on a negative story about a Democrat I put on the front page.

I accidentally moved the goalposts.

Sorry about that.

What we were talking about isn't so much the offensiveness of the comments, but the double-standard reaction to them.

Take Biden's comment - it was terrible, but because it was racialist and directed at conservatives he got a complete pass.

Akin's comment was terrible and the GOP and countless conservative pundits (and of course the entire left side of the spectrum) denounced what he said.

The head of the NAACP made a horribly racial comment directed at a black Republican Senator and nobody on the left denounced it.

#64 | Posted by JeffJ at 2014-02-13 11:52 PM | Reply | Flag:

So in other words, he's only a state rep, so it's OK and he gets a pass, as does the VP and proggie mouthpieces who racebait.

Gotta love the very fine and specific pigeonholing a partisan will do to protect his own. And always after the fact. They never make these declarations before the perp opens his mouth.

Funny how that works

The mainstream media devoted significant coverage to Biden's goofy remark. They love making Biden look stupid. I don't know how you think he got a pass.

I don't know what NAACP remark you're referring to, but the head of that group isn't holding public office. He's not much more of a prominent figure than Bill Donahue of the Catholic League. Does anybody on the right denounce Donahue when he says something bigoted or ugly?

I admit I have largely stopped reading his lame threads so I could be wrong, but I have never seen you tell him, "He's just a mayor" as you are telling Jeff "He's just a state rep" as you did in this thread.

I don't think anyone on the left should have said a word of criticism about Biden's remark. It was no more harsh than many other sharp-elbowed things political partisans say about the other side. Read any Ann Coulter column and you'll find a remark just as nasty aimed at Democrats or the left.

Thanks for the link. The NAACP leader is the president of a state NAACP chapter. He's not a national figure. I think his dummy remark was pretty tough rhetoric, but it's not anywhere close to being as bad as what Holmes said about Thomas.

ah what a good thread...I chuckled several times as the radical leftists here try SO HARD to minimize this.....couple said...'well it's not all liberals'..

but yet it happens over and over and the liberal obama steno pool RARELY even talks about it...so that right there tells you that it's not just one nut in "Hooosville' or what ever hole he lives in...

any dem who votes FOR obama...you're ALL THE SAME....including this guy.

Only in your bubble are all dems the same. Be sure to wipe down the drool from your hamster ball before you try walking around.

I am as OK with it as I am with Gingrich saying Obama has a "Kenyan, anti-colonial" worldview or Palin claiming liberals hate America. It's a cheap shot, but not enough for me to think the national media should throw a collective fit over it.

The problem is the national media DID throw a collective fit over Gingrich and Palin's comments, yet gave Biden a pass.

The double-standard is glaring.

Akin is a classic case-in-point.

Stupid and offensive comment and the national media went --------. Yet Biden says what he says and gets a pass.
