Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, February 12, 2014

It's being called the "clean" debt ceiling vote, the first such measure by Congress in three years that allows the federal government to borrow more money with no strings attached. The bill, which suspends the debt ceiling until March 2015, passed the House Tuesday by 221 to 201. Most in the majority were Democrats.

But to tea partyers, who feel abandoned by Republican House Speaker John Boehner, there's nothing clean about what happened Tuesday. Now, they say, it's the "Boehner Debt Hike."

"Are we discouraged? Absolutely," says Adam Brandon, spokesman for the national tea party group Freedomworks. "Go back to the beginning of the movement. One of the things that people got involved in the political process for was to get debt and spending under control."

I honestly do not know whether Boehner has made the Tea Party stronger or weaker by this capitulation. He certainly has infuriated the base beyond recognition.

The Republican Party and the Tea Party are in complete agreement on the majority of issues.

They play "Good Cop Bad Cop" with America to deflect responsibility for their bad behavior.

OWS, I am not sure. I think that the TP and the GOP are in virulent disagreement with one another over the debt ceiling. Which is why the next several months should be interesting for their internecine conflict.

we're not discouraged. We're mad that he's just another member standing behind obama in line. We're also still wondering what the white house has on boehner. Maybe someone will have the courage to find out.

BL2, is it so hard to accept the fact that many in the GOP simply disagree with Tea Parties extremist positions? Seems far more like than the White House 'having something' on Boehner. Many rationale, sane people disagree with the chaos that you and Tea Party are trying to drum up.

tea party bad behavior.....fiscal sanity, social issues that save lives instead of throwing them in trash can.

boehner is being primaried. He will most likely win but he might as well put that "D" after his name because he's a coward.

This is like the Fort Sumter shot in the GOP Civil War.

Lee, I agree with you. I think it is a really big deal what just happened within the ranks of the Congressional GOP. I am surprised more people don't see or comment on it.

Obama, fiscal hawk, just as Danni predicted.

The question is will the Republican Party escape from the John Birch Society kidnappers or not. John Boehner is making a run for it but the Birchers are right on his tail.

One of the truly, most idiotic things I have read at DR. Cold War mentality from someone who, I guess, does not look around at current events.

You must not read your own posts. The Tea Party is made up largely of the same angry, idiotic cranks that made up the Birch Society combined with younger, dumber Foxbots.
