Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, February 08, 2014

Michael Maiello, Esquire: Rand Paul, a to-be candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, told a radio show Tuesday he believes President Barack Obama is trying to "transform America into a socialist nightmare." This is a standard rallying cry from the far right, even if it's rarely laid out in such plainspoken language by a mainstream politician. The United States of America, it goes, is becoming a socialist hellhole. But here's the problem: The numbers don't back that up. Instead, they reveal an America that is running away from a "socialist" anything. As President Obama enters the final half of his last term, he has left us with an America that conservatives should love.

The trickle down dynamics of Reaganomics have been cemented into the tax code, abortion rates are down, and border enforcement has led to record deportations. The United States remains the military might of the world, augmented by an aggressive drone warfare program that allows for low risk interventions in hostile foreign lands. Union membership is down. International trade is on the rise.

Even on issues where conservatives might differ, like same sex marriage and marijuana legalization, the states have acted in lieu of the Feds, serving as the laboratories of democracy that conservatives have long claimed they always should have been.

Exactly what I keep saying about Obama. He's nothing but Bush III, only now the republicans are free to hate the exact same policies, since a black guy is doing them.

So.... some people think the economy could have recovered in such a way as to end inequality in America, reverse the trend towards conservatism, and change the 1 percenter position at the same time?

Talk about magical thinking.

No, but some people think Bush tax cuts could have been immediately rescinded, single payer enacted or used as leverage for a better healthcare deal, troops brought home, and banks left to fail while homeowners were rescued. Just for a small start to things that are completely within a president's power to do or push for with threat of veto.

- banks left to fail

Always amazes me to see so-called liberals root for the poor, middle class, and seniors to lose their savings.

As for the rest, thinking that Republican filibusterers don't exist is even more magical thinking.

exactly, but political rivalry and showmanship on TV necessitate illusions.

Quite a list of conservative accomplishments for a socialist who is of color.

A Muslim socialist of color, no less.

Just like neocons moved Democrats to the right in past elections, libertarians are going to move the wind socks back to the left over drones, the drug war and NSA spying.

American libertarian groups are inundated with disgruntled Republican rwingers these days, fairly oblivious to that side of libertarianism... so the only reason they are now against drones, the drug war and NSA spying, is because there is a Dem President.... who happens to be a black Muslim socialist.

The U.S. is surely moving in a statist direction. This conservative does not think that the U.S. is heading in a conservative direction and this conservative does not believe in utopias.

Conservatives will hate Obama no matter what policies he promoted because it's not about pollicy, it's about him personally. They can't stand him and his family in the White House. Need evidence? Look at how inconsistent their views are. He deports record amount of the people they hate but somehow he can't be trusted to enforce the law. He outright rejects the socialist single payer or public option health care and instead ops for the most conservative, heritage foundation plan and somehow he is a wide eyed socialist.
He uses drones to kill Arabs at a astounding rate but somehow he is a weak president who apoligizes for America. The list goes on and on. Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be truth. The truth is republicans and conservative are inconsistent because the real reason they block and obstruct this presdident is because they are prejudiced against non whites. Sorry but what else on earth could it be?

There is no difference between the parties.

It is not just Obama that is a conservative, it is pretty much the whole Dammocratic party that has become right wing freaks.
The Dems have not had a big idea since Carter, all they do is take a runny turd ideas from the Repugs draw a smiley face on it and claim it as their own.
which is why I always laugh when some of the Dumbest DR members whimpers and cries that Obama just will not compromise with the repugs!
every thing he does originated from the repugs
how in the hell can he compromise any more then that.
useless, both Dems and repubs

There are no conservatives nor liberals in power nor fascist media.

They are all fascist.
