Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, February 07, 2014

On Thursday evening, Jay Leno left the Tonight Show after 22 years. "I am the luckiest guy in the world. This is tricky," said the emotional Leno, stepping down for the second and presumably last time as host of TV's venerable late-night program. Leno shared that he'd lost his mother the first year he became host, his dad the second and then his brother. "And after that I was pretty much out of family. And the folks here became my family," he said of the crew and staff. Jimmy Fallon takes over Tonight on Feb. 17, moving it from Los Angeles to New York.

I'd like all the late night shows to go. They are all flawed imitations of Paar-Carson and have the exact same formats. Dull. Dull. Dull.
Time for something new.

Crystal's recap of Leno's best jokes was insane. 2nd best comic writing after Larry Gelbart. Actually Crystal's monologue was beautiful piece, then he went into the song and dance numbers, as he usually does, and it was downhill from there.

I remember watching Leno when he was guest hosting for Carson and he was just brilliant. Johnny was great, but you could tell that is was time for a change, as Mondays nights were much funniest of the week.. I didn't miss one Leno show the first few years until I moved back to Europe.

I look forward to the new show. Fallon can sing, dance, play guitar, act - none of which was in Leno's repertoire. Quite an array of dynamics for a talented individual that the Tonight Show has not seen. Should be interesting.

and no one cares - besides me. Only because Leno is the worst comedian ever and I feel passionate to let everyone know that.

"Only because Leno is the worst comedian ever..."

Second only to Ellen DeGenris, who never made a single funny joke but is an excellent interviewer.

Sure maybe he wasn't that funny, but he did host others very well.

You folks are full of hooey. Ellen and Leno were both very funny.

Ellen had one comedy special that was exceptionally funny (don't remember the name of it).

The only good thing about Leno is his car collection and car knowledge.

Aww where will we go for all the latest monica lewinsky jokes?

Lord knows leno still found them hilarious 20 years later.

I never watched a single episode of Leno.

When I heard on CNN in 2005 that Johnny Carson had died at the age of 79, I was so shocked. I felt like I had just been informed that a favorite uncle had past away.

"Ellen had one comedy special that was exceptionally funny (don't remember the name of it)."

Must have been exceptionally exceptional, then.
