Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, February 02, 2014

Leaders of two major unions, including the first to endorse Obama in 2008, said they have been betrayed by an administration that wooed their support for the 2009 legislation with promises to later address the peculiar needs of union-negotiated insurance plans that cover millions of workers.Their complaints reflect a broad sense of disappointment among many labor leaders, who say the Affordable Care Act has subjected union health plans to new taxes and mandates while not allowing them to share in the subsidies that have gone to private insurance companies competing on the newly created exchanges.

Here's the problem. You get the support of different constituencies for the roll-out of a huge worthless healthcare bill by promising them in private certain things that aren't in the bill. You parade the constituencies in front of the American people with everyone smiling and "looking good". You, as POTUS, don't have a clue what's in the bill but it's easy to slap the back of folks promising them if there are parts of it that are a potential problem; those problems can be fixed later. That's been one of the major problems of the entire Obama presidency. He's been a manufactured mannequin (not a leader) that is a front for the bureaucracy of Washington. That's why his presidency is crumbling. His half-truths (putting it nicely) have now made him a lame-duck POTUS. If historians have any honesty, the big question in the future is how did this guy that appeared out of nowhere without any qualifications ever become POTUS.

That's easy.

He was the Democratic candidate in 2008, and there was zero chance the Republican candidate was going to win.

Democrats needed a black candidate to mask their racism.

No worries, the unions will still [blindly] vote dem even though they were screwed by them with obamacare - libs just cannot help themselves.

Socialism promises only greater equality, not exact equality, leaving open the question of who gets what. Ultimately, socialism dissolves into factions squabbling over which group will reap the lions share of the benefits, a competition in which those who resort to compulsion have obvious advantages.

Factionalism is an inevitable result of all expansions of government economic powers. It is not mere coincidence that the modern growth of government involvement in economic matters has been accompanied by the growth of "vested interests" and their massive monetary contributions to the political parties. - Hayek

Obamacare isn't worthless. My family used it to obtain the best insurance policy we've been offered in over a decade. The premium is slightly more expensive, but the benefits are better and out-of-pocket costs are lower so I expect we'll end up saving a lot of money.

Millions of Americans have obtained insurance through the exchanges, and many have good insurance for the first time in years. This law is a godsend.

If some labor unions aren't happy because they didn't get a special carve out, and thus have to follow the same rules as others, I will play the world's tiniest violin in sympathy for their plight.

Hayek was a propagandist for von Mises, and not a very good one at that.

And Mudflap would be crying ans wailing if Obama gave them a special exemption.

Right! They should vote for the party that has sought to eliminate them for the last 70 years.

Yeah, they'll spend lots of time discussing that right after they discuss the FACT that his President, our first black President BTW, got health care reform passed during the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression. Historically, Obama will be seen as our first magic President.

Notice how they dismiss the fact that he was re-elected by a sizable majority.

Yes Danni he did.... Maybe he should have been paying more attention to the economy.

That's like saying he was the first President to remodel the kitchen while the house was on fire. I'd have applauded him for putting on the fire personally.

Notice how you and Danni dismiss what the overwelming majority of Americans now think about Unaffordabe Health Care? Remember, they had to pass it for everyone to find out what was in it.

He was re-elected after ACA was already the law. It was debated between him and Romney. He won.

And more than half of the country thinks it is the R's fault.

Perhaps they should have had their lawyers read it before they decided to support it?

I, like Rcade, have little sympathy for them at this point.

"And more than half of the country thinks it is the R's fault."

That's part of our problem when so many folks blame it on "the other side".

oh, so NOW you realize that labor unions don't exactly make the best decisions on behalf of their members?

Gee, where was this response when you've seen unions show their disapproval for the way things worked out in the past?

oh that's right...this is different....in this case, it's the dem party and Obama that's the villain instead of some evil corporation (run by registered republicans, no doubt) and then you break out the snarky small violin....

funny.

Obama care is worthless and will continue to be, the only people who like it are people who have the money to up their insurance and think they will benefit in the long term because of more coverage they don't know they will use yet. It is like by those few who selfishly improved their insurance.

Now it isn't a bad thing to like it because selfishly it improved coverage, that's natural, but to try and use the improvement like it is benefitting the country and for political party purposes is just political pandering.

There is a reason the nation is up set and it will get much much bigger at the end of this year when those with company healthcare lose and must go to the far more EXPENSIVE exchanges.

It is a praise to those few who are benefitting but it is crap to the rest.

They only value with this article is showing how Obama manipulated a vast group of people and then decided to crap on the unwritten promise.

The real issue will be how much future support from working people in unions Obama will receive, Obama just proved to them that he is deceitful and a liar.

You are really invested in the failure of the ACA.

What happened? Were you finally "forced" to be responsible and get proper health insurance for the first time in your life?

Obamacare has already helped millions. Sorry you are not one of them.

"think they will benefit in the long term because of more coverage they don't know they will use yet."

Sheer ignorance. Insurance for everyone is not the FINAL answer but it is the best solution we could have hoped for at the time and is definitely a step in the right direction. I am sick of hearing you whine about the ACA but never do you have an alternative that is better.

Obama is waiting. Where is YOUR Plan?

"If you have specific plans to cut costs, cover more people and increase choice -- tell America what you would do differently. Let's see if the numbers add up." -Barack Obama, January 29, 2014

Millions have been shifted from one policy to another rcade? Of your millions, how many have actually selected and paid the premiums? Your number includes people like me who selected similar plans just to see the difference between it and my current plan.
