House Republicans appear to be softening their resistance to an impending vote to raise the debt limit, which could diffuse the threat of another showdown over the nation's borrowing authority next month. "The debt's going up, and we have a greater obligation than to simply just pass it alone, but there is a political reality that the administration and the president doesn't see it that way," House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., said Thursday.

They are not backing down. They are letting the other party take the blame, Corky.
It's the same way the sham conservatives of the republican party (lower case intended) let every budget they controlled go up in spending, while blaming the democrats (lowercase enjoyed) for such things.
It's a dog and pony show.
Just ask the current NSA heads if Obama stopped them and then ask the typical republican voter if they felt more free after Bush.

Get real~ they're backing down because of the mid-term elections and they're all scared of getting voted out of office if they pull another extortion stunt this close to an election.

As for "and then ask the typical republican voter if they felt more free after Bush"

I can think of nearly 4,000 voters in uniform if they felt more free after Bush. But I can't ask them because they're dead.

Seems the Congressional GOP leadership is finally waking up to reality. Too bad the lunatic GOP base will beat them to death over it.

They're trying to get organized behind the scenes to roust the stupid out of the Senate, at least. An old warhorse like Mitch McConnell will probably be back, though.

House Ways and Means chairman says Republicans have to face political realities

Please never tell these fools what they "have" to do. Especially in regards to reality. They'll take their own children as human shields and barricade themselves inside Congressional offices.

They'll be broken in two like children.

Representative Grimm is going to be famous. We'll be giggling about him long after he's passed on.

Ted Cruz is not a Canadian. He's letting the United States take the blame for him.

In regards to all of this, in a few weeks Ted will be saying that he never backed-down, and that he never fought, but that he never backed down, but that he never fought....

Someone needs to rescue poor Ted by taking him off these self-inflicted Moebius loops.

Let's see if I've got my Repuplican/Libertarian/Tea Party imitation mastered:

"If they'd planned their lives better, they wouldn't be dead".

Hey wait, why do we have to raise the debt ceiling anyway? On Tuesday night Obama told everyone he cut the debt in half! He wouldn't lie to us would he?

You forget about the living military that felt more free when Bush was president. The military is doing their job, but has zero respect for the disrespectful moron in the white house.

I really don't know how the "living" military felt very free when their lives were under constant threat of multiple deployments and they never knew from one deployment to the next if they would even be alive for five more minutes.

They weren't free. They were hostages of George Bush who used them like so many disposable pawns in his quest for the Iraqi oil fields.

"The military is doing their job, but has zero respect for the disrespectful moron in the white house."

That's wishful thinking on your part but it's pretty obvious that the soldiers are more than ready to come home, thanks to Barrack Obama, and get on with whatever is left of their lives.

You really need to curb your blood lust. It isn't very becomming.

Bring manufacturing back home.
Stop attacking other countries.
Close 2000 foreign military bases.
Raise taxes on the rich.

Its called "leverage" when the republiclowns do it.

Its called driving off the fiscal cliff dooming the country to damnation and eternal enslavement when the democrats do it.

Either way it amounts to the same thing.

Reducing the amount of risk assumed by the US and passing it to our chief competitors... China 1.3 trillion, Japan 1.2 trillion a small smattering of other countries. Its a way of keeping them from screwing us too badly in the market place because they still want to be paid back. In the end everyone profits... well theoretically anyways.

Spreading the responsibility for payment across the spectrum of taxpayers to reduce the burden on the individuals incurring the debt is what is happening. The rich should pay the most because they are the ones who reap the most reward from the loans. What they have done instead is borrow from the US government (tax payers) leveraging the average middle class taxpayer and blamed the occurring short foalls and deficits it on the poor including the working poor... who despite what they tell you are also leveraged because everyone pays taxes on the state and local level. Those taxes have been increased because the federal taxes were cut and the states and cities are getting less and less of the federal share.

What the clownies don't like is democrats insistence on applying the promised "trickled down" domestically. It should be interesting to say the least watching the pigbrains justify why the majority Americans don't deserve to earn a living wage for the next 10 months and why they should be elected to make sure they don't get one in this life time.

The reason there were mass lay offs when the republiclowns screwed up the economy during the Bush years was to prevent inflation so the rich wouldn't lose a dime in their profits.

But since there isn't, the more government spends, taxes, borrows, prints, legislates and controls, the worse the economy gets and the lower living standards get. When government is the problem, there is NO chance it can be the solution. That's been the trend for about the past forty years. I'm past trying to teach the morons on this site that there is such thing as a political solution. Nature has no sympathy for stupidity and ignorance.

TWo unpaid for wars, tax cuts for the rich at the same time, housing bubble that collapsed and plunged nation into deepest recession since the Great Depression and you're still pretending it was Democrats that ran this country into the ground? Completely laughable.
