Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, January 27, 2014

CBS host Bob Schieffer's was driven to laughter on Face the Nation Sunday when Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) repeatedly refused to take responsibility for last year's government shutdown. After Cruz claimed "President Obama and the Democrats shut the government down this fall," Schieffer tried again to get Cruz to acknowledge reality. Laughing, he finally asked, "If you didn't threaten to shut down the government, who was it that did?"

Will Saletan writes, "When Cruz advises you to blame the politicians who thought they would benefit, that's generally sound advice. What he neglects to mention is that he was among them. In fact, he was the leader on the Republican side."

A pray for a repeat shutdown from the GOTP coming soon.

Got lots of corn to pop.

You would have to be a blind TP ideologue not to laugh outright at Cruz' level of double-speak. Same planet, different universes. Unless I were one of those sheeplike obedient TP types, I would be embarassed to have Cruz as my Senator.

Shieffer is just another shill for the left. He knows full well that the government slow down was because Barack Obama threw a tantrum because Congress would not go along with him and let him have his way. And as it turns out, they were correct. The ACA is the most damaging piece of legislation to American lives and the economy in my lifetime. Too bad Obama, Reid and Pelosi will never take responsibility for the pain and suffering and actual lives that will be lost due to the ACA.

I just had to give Bogey's #12 a funny flag. It is the most clueless post I have read on this site in a while. Made me laugh. Because yeah, I think we all believe that Obama, Reid and Pelosi have conspired to make the American people suffer by trying to give access to reasonably priced health insurance to all Americans. (wow)

#14 | Posted by moder8 at 2014-01-27 02:42 PM | Reply | Flag:

I find it all kinda ironic that Obama stated often that he would NOT negotiate any changes to Obamacare as the House submitted bill after bill up until the shutdown. THEN, he changed it unilaterally right after the shutdown ended, including some changes the House had suggested. Hell, he's STILL making unilateral changes...albeit it's probably illegal to do so.

I'm very afraid that "nothing will" is right. In The Great State Cruz is just short of a rock star. Even if he weren't popular he'll be around for a while.

And, of course, for those Americans who don't want to participate, they can pay a yearly fine or go to jail. Their choice.

Because as we all know, the ACA's benefits are powered by unicorns and magic rainbows, not by tax dollars extracted under the threat of violence.

rewriting history is standard operating procedure for Thugs and follows the traditions of Goebel. Most Americans have such short memories that it works. I don't mean to suggest that Rethugs have any political monopoly on lying, but they are a more effective organization in regard to beating their talking points to death in unison.

Of course they don't. But I think that we're all interested in a man like Cruz who will lie about widely-broadcast recent personal behavior which remains recorded virtually everywhere.

The balls it takes to tell such a lie after everyone in the known world knows the truth is astounding. This is recent history this clown is denying. I love how he just talks endlessly to limit the amount of questions he has to not answer. He tried to extort the president and the president told him to go --- himself. Proud of Obama.

- the country did well during the SHUT-DOWN?

"$24 billion.

That's according to an estimate from Standard & Poor's. The financial services company said the shutdown, which ended with a deal late Wednesday night after 16 days, took $24 billion out of the U.S. economy, and reduced projected fourth-quarter GDP growth from 3 percent to 2.4 percent.

Here's a breakdown of some of the economic cost by our calculations:"

What they celebrate is that, as far as they can see, no one they like was hurt by it.

If this were different, then they'd be twice as earnest in blaming Ted Cruz's vandalism on Obama.

More to the point it demonstrated how republiclowns don't give a rats @$$ about government waste... or for that matter the constitution considering they were trying their hand at rewriting the law and the coercing the president to repeal done deal piece of legislation.

The only one that finds the cost of the shutdown news here is you. That discussion was at the forefront as the shutdown was underway... why do you think the senate came in and extracted it from the dirty little paws of the clown congress? The pig brains were not only causing damage to the US economy but the world economy as well... or did you miss that part of it too>

One of the main reasons we know the clowns don't give a crap about the economy is they won't discuss matters on a point by point basis. They choose to puke up some general paranoid scenario of doom and gloom. Your ignorance is what they count on.

Republiclowns answers to everything is to obstruct... its all they have because they insist on staying stupid. What is funny is that during that same period there was supposed to be a swarm of truckers to descend on the beltway and cause a massive traffic jam.

Where do you idiots get the idea that if you punish the average person trying to come to and from work and home costing them money and time that it will inspire anyone to see things your way? Where do you idiots get the idea that if you close all government run businesses depriving people of their paycheck they will pat you on the back and tell you how wonderful you are and gee wiz they want to be on your side.

Oh wait I know ... you are the same group of fools that believed that running a shock and awe campaign on a country killing and maiming thousands that they would throw parades in your honor showering your with rosewater and rice.

Ignoring the many times he's on video stating the opposite, I'm confused with the Right defending him on this one.

Even though it was considered by the Right to have been a non-event, even a "good thing", even though it's estimated to have wasted a few billion dollars, why is he denying any involvement in it now? Hell he should be proud.

Isn't this the guy who is supposed to have the integrity needed to dismantle the ills of the current Govt?
