Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Dennis Rodman was already having a rotten month, between the trip to rehab and the global condemnation for cozying up to a dictator. Now things may be about to get much worse. The U.S. Treasury Department is investigating whether he violated the law that prohibits the importing of luxury goods into North Korea. On his third and most recent trip to Pyongyang this month, Rodman reportedly brought several gifts for the young Kim's 31st birthday. They allegedly included hundreds of dollars' worth of Irish Jameson whiskey, European crystal, an Italian suit, a fur coat, and an English Mulberry handbag for Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju.

The gifts appear to be violations of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718, adopted in 2006, and UNSCR 2094, adopted in 2013.

Perhaps more importantly, Rodman may have violated an American law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), as implemented by Executive Order 13551, which President Barack Obama signed in 2010, which makes it a violation of U.S. law for any person determined by the Treasury and State Departments "to have, directly or indirectly, imported, exported, or reexported luxury goods to or into North Korea."

So the article implies violating a "law" that was only an Obama executive order and (OMG! Gasp!) a UN Security Council Resolution (ever see Syria, Iran, China, Russia, the USA or PLO do THAT heinous crime??) is what Rodman is in trouble for.
I hope he gets sober, comes out of rehab and flips the bird at Obama and the UN.

What he's accused of violating isn't "a 'law' that was only an Obama executive order" but the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (1977) -- "a United States federal law authorizing the President to regulate commerce after declaring a national emergency in response to any unusual and extraordinary threat to the United States which has a foreign source" (
en.wikipedia.org).

This is really over the top. What do you expect from a guy with rings in his nose, ears, lips, tongue and who knows where else along with ubiquitous tattoos? A guy who probably thinks the moon is a huge basketball orb that needs to be dunked in some black hole in the future? Leave the poor guy alone. I believe his latest misadventure will relegate him to his miserable background for some time.

Then he'd have your vote in 2016, wouldn't he?

Rodman is guilt of not unfailingly saluting to our infallible leaders anointed to by god; who have decreed that n. korea is the anti-christ.

Therefore he must be punished for disobedience in order to prevent the stupid sheeple from getting the wrong ideas. i.e. that everything that n. korea does, the american empire does far worse and on a 1000 times greater scale.

Go back to bed imbeciles. Uncle sam knows what is best for you.

Had he done the exact same things under Bush you'd want him locked up at Guantanamo. So predictable.

Still all over Bush, danni? Why are you giving Reagan a pass? Remember...it's all Bush/Reagan's fault? That's your third tenet isn't it?
