You are being indoctrinated into the feminist methods of parenting. Just the conversation of the women in the board should tell you that. I suggest you avoid any sort of organized parenting. You are a man, you create order out of chaos with pain and pleasure, its in your DNA.

You will be a good father if you envision a future, create direction and order, towards that vision, using pain and pleasure.

I will take it a step further and step in the [...], single mothers tend to produce poor kids.

Why is that? Women can nurture to a certain age, after which the kids need to be exposed to the world, and trained to work within it. Women in general have a hard time doing that. This is why you have such great movies about single father trying to reconnect with their sons, trying to make them better men. I can't think of a movie where a mother tries to make her son a better man.
