Dylan Ratigan: If you are reading this, you likely know I left a highly-successful, self-titled show at MSNBC last June in search of meaning and purpose in my work and life. I had lost both after 18 years in Manhattan and the chaos surrounding the hollow political debates permeating America's media and politics. ... Last fall, I moved from NYC to north San Diego County, just outside of the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, to work full-time with Colin and Karen Archipley at their hydroponic organic farm, Archi's Acres.

After realizing how impressive their ideas and effectiveness are, I decided to invest the money that I earned for writing Greedy Bastards (which when combined with a loan from Whole Foods) to build a 30,000 square foot "farm incubator" that can serve as the prototype for job-creating, water-saving, food-producing, veteran-led hydroponic organic greenhouses nationwide.

Couldn't have been that successful of a show. Never even heard of the guy.

I didn't mind him. Would watch when I go to my parents for dinner; they love MSNBC. Who I hate is who replaced him: Martin Bashir.

He had his own shows on CNBC and then MSNBC for a decade. He wasn't a lefty like most of the MSNBC lineup, but was coming from somewhere in the middle.

Good for Ratigan. He turned on. Tuned in. And dropped out.

Funny how the right has gone so the scale at the far extreme right that the middle is now considered "liberal".

lets try that again:

Funny how the right has gone so far off the end of the extreme right side of the political scale that the middle is now considered to be "liberal".

My three hydro ghetto-girls were doing excellent - the big white hairs were starting to appear every node - two were over 6' sativa, and I had a tiny 3' indica. My setup used wide-spectrum florescent lights and one incandescent bulb for the yellows and a fan, that's it. I killed them when I was forced to move for fear of someone seeing or smelling them - each plant could be producing approximately 4 ounces at minimum - these girls were huge though, I'd guess 9 ounces each quite easily. If I could have kept one it could have yielded a minimum of $1500 and helped me find a good place. Their actual purpose was to make 1 lb for Rick Simpson oil, but I'm too terrified to be on any medical marijuana list.

The Canadian government is incarcerating medical marijuana patients in Nova Scotia for distributing the medical oil to other patients. They just tried to pass a law to disallow social security recipients medical marijuana - the public despised this, yet it was magically brought to vote. It's only a matter of time until that "insurance"-driven, immoral agenda is brought here too, imo.

Always enjoyed Dylan when he was on CNBC business----he was the only one early on who was challenging what the banksters were doing----he got it.

Sound very Atlas Shrugged.

(That's a book libs. You can probably find a synopsis on the interwebs.)

It is sad that you have to live in fear because you are growing your own medicine and trying to take care of yourself instead of relying on Big Pharma.

I can grow up to 99 plants here in Humboldt County as long as I follow the rules.

The biggest problem I see with hydroponics is that it is very energy intensive.

I am happy Dylan was able to follow his dream.

Its amazing the high fuel cost of operating a Greenhouse through winter. I helped one locally save about $2K/month from a $5K/month gas bill.

I am so jealous. After vegging with lights on all of the time it took me a long while to get their flowering light/water/CO2 absorption rhythm, and noticed larger growth bursts after returning from ignoring a watering. The sativa I grew seem to be conditionally arid/tropical until flowering, which must be performed like clockwork, in my brief experience. The tiny indica was even more delicate to nutrients.

I had to germinate from my collection of mystery seeds, so I just kept them in their gigantic initial containers and watered twice a day by hand throughout their lives. These girls got huge quickly, so my early bubbleponics experiments are not a good enough design for such large plants. These were the first that I allowed beyond germination - a very thirsty plant with easy-to-read nutrition indicators, so easy to grow - if I had the space!
