Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a leading conservative Republican, on Tuesday put his weight behind comprehensive immigration reform efforts that likely will include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented foreigners. Paul, who has hinted at a possible 2016 run for president, delivered a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in which he ridiculed the notion of deporting the 11 million undocumented people, many of whom have lived for decades in the United States and are raising families here. "Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport" millions of "illegal immigrants," Paul said.

I now get why Hillary finally announced her support for gay marriage. Considering all the shifting to the left that they are doing, she didn't want Paul or Ryan to beat her to the punch on that issue.

alright Rand! OPEN BORDERS everywhere!

#2 That isn't what Rand Paul supports.

it's a start, provided his "stages" are not draconian and are expedititous.

...
... the Repubs have now done some realistic polling on why they are being vote of office, so wach them change their policies to suit the public mood .....
..
1..they need the gay vote, so now they love the gays ...
2..they need the Latino vote, so now they offer citizenship...
3..they need the women's vote, so the next retreat will be on health insurance, Obamacare, contraception coverage....
...
.... the first two are already done ......

"vote of office" ......voted out of office ....

#4 a prerequisite of his is that the borders be secured. Depending on what he considers "secured", it may never get off the ground.

While I applaud his acknowledgement that we don't want to deport 11 million people I still think that he and other Republicans are somewhat disingenuous about what these people can expect to happen. I am pretty sure Republicans will prevent them from becoming citizens for a very long time, no way are they going to let these folks ever vote.

What the GOP says and what they do are usually opposites. They are running out of angry white guys at the same time they are creating a generation of angry (at them) non whites.

The goal posts are being moved closer and closer to the 50 yard line, by both parties.

Rand Paul kinda sorta maybe in the future embraces immigration reform... because he thinks he has to for his party to win another election anytime soon.

The only future Rand embraces is his own.

This is nothing but a new clown performing for the amusement of the children

What, by making immigrants get in line?

Don't worry!

When the illegals find out they have to purchase Obama health insurance they can't afford (and doesn't cover much even if they could afford it), they will stay home were they still have freedom and afford to see the doctor.

Heck, Obamacare will make the Mexican medical industry boom. Just wait and see.

#14 | Posted by brilliantbart at 2013-03-20 07:53 PM | Reply | Flag:

...they're all assuming that illegals will still want to come here. I'm not so sure.

In fact, I think the opposite is true. Many Americans will soon be seeking medical care down south. For the same price you'll pay for a $5,000 deductible policy here in America (that still leaves you filing for bankruptcy in the end); you could buy an fully implanted kidney down in Mexico.

And the dental care? Superior too, for the money.

Don't worry. We build it, and they won't come.

There simply ain't no denying though that there are a great many good people here "illegally".

What do ya do?

It's a type of easement:
The government cannot lackadaisically enforce immigration laws,
only to turn around and treat millions of folks like criminals.

It's akin to changing the rules in the middle of the game.
Truly, we cannot and will not deport millions of people.

However, can we get it right this time?

Is this policy good for the USA or good only for Rand Paul? That is how most pols make their policy decisions to the detriment of the country and people.

#20 | Posted by robson at 2013-03-20 11:25 PM | Reply | Flag:

That is correct, they need not be deported, just denied employment.

#21 | Posted by nutcase at 2013-03-21 12:18 AM | Reply | Flag:

It's sad, but true. But how else does one deal with "free" entitlements?

The only good thing is that at our present course, America will no longer be attractive to undocumented future democrats. Really sad.

The same people who brought us slavery brought us illegal immigration and for the same exact reasons...greed and politics and affordable manual labor. Neither slavery nor illegal immigration has served America well, and it kept the farmers and commercial interests from investing in mechanized processes that would have served us.

#23 | Posted by Robson at 2013-03-21 03:19 PM | Reply | Flag:

Damn right robson! We outlawed slavery so we can outlaw illegal immigration too.

All we need to do is make it illegal to illegally immigrate and the problem is solved!

Sure, like with the outlawing of slavery some folks will take the news that illegal immigration is now illegal unpleasantly; but at least it will be forevermore illegal to illegally immigrate.
