Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Republican National Committee concedes in a sprawling report Monday that the GOP is seen as the party of "stuffy old men" and needs to change its ways. The report cites post-election focus groups with voters conducted for the RNC. "Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is 'scary,' 'narrow minded,' and 'out of touch' and that we were a Party of 'stuffy old men,'" the report states. "Already, there is a generational difference within the conservative movement about issues involving the treatment and the rights of gays -- and for many younger voters, these issues are a gateway into whether the Party is a place they want to be."

A conservative movement is the natural home for a lot of people who the GOP are actively trying to keep out.

Party is 'scary,' 'narrow minded,' and 'out of touch' and that we were a Party of 'stuffy old men,'"

And those stuffy old men were seen as sane and moderate compared to the new klowns reaching for the steering wheel.

It doesn't matter what the Tea Party wants, it's the billionaires in suits that will change the party to hold onto power.

I see no other way than the party splitting in two, the social conservatives will never support gay anything or abortion and the rest of the party that wants to take a small government approach sees that many that agree with them are forced to vote against the GOP because they have different values then the social conservatives. A Social Conservative party could take many minority voters who already have a closer outlook to social conservativtisum away from the Dems . Interesting Times!

Exactamundo, the Grand old party hasn't gotten a dime from conservatives or tea party folks that I know. I only support the local party. The RNC is going to roll out the old "we've seen the error of our ways and we promise we will change" banner but it's business as usual behind closed doors.

I also see the party splitting in two - with big business interests in the "New GOP" and social conservatives (and wackos, crazies, and racists) in the Tea Party.

If demagoguery didn't work then the Democrats wouldn't use it.
The problem for Republicans is that only about 25% of the people measure success in terms of results. For most voters a claim to good intentions and not wanting to hurt people's feelings is enough.

It's much more appealing to voters to pretend how much you care, the results be damned.

Graham, along with McCain have become moss covered. The dead wood needs cleared out. Republicans aren't looking for angry white guys, just adults.

Do you have any examples of republicans currently serving at the federal level, who are acting like adults?

Neither would the GOppers. It wasn't the Dems that told primary voters McCain had a secret black baby, or that Obama was a secret Muslim.

It does scare people when you tell them, that maybe, just maybe, the problems that they have in life are of their own creation. The idea of personal responsibility tends to freak some people out.

With each passing day, we draw closer to the much needed dissolution of the discredited GOP and the birth of a new, fiscally responsible party. So long RNC. Good riddens.

In the meantime "conservatives"will line up to vote straight GOP ticket, which in turn will keep all the libertarian loons in the GOP.

Sometimes the problems you have in life are because your dad got killed in a war for oil profits or your teachers suck because republicans prefer tax cuts to investments in our kids.

But right wingers have a tendency to be blind to the problems of others and chalk it up to "well that didn't happen to me so it must be their own fault"

Probably not, but I do know what has happened in the past. You guys lined up to vote for McCain and Etchy, as well as Dubya. And there hasn't been a "libertarian" candidate in the last quarter century has there? Even the Queen of Real Americans, SARAH!! supports Republicans. But keep telling yourself some day your Libertarian Liberator will show up.

I don't think anyone is worried about "stuffy old men", I'm pretty sure we're all freaked out by the crazy Tea Party members that are coming out of the woodworks and hitching themselves to the GOP.

The problem with the Tea Party is they are too ignorant to realize their brand of crazy is off putting to everyone else in the nation.

So, you're saying I didn't vote for Gary Johnson last fall because he wasn't running on the Libertarian ticket for President in 2012?

#22 | Posted by libertarian_gi at 2013-03-18 09:55 PM | Reply | Flag:

Somehow the GOP went from being the party of Jerry "Mr nice guy" Ford to a group so mean they almost made Bob Dole cry when they murdered a veterans job bill.

The good news for America is that there are less of them in the Senate now and Democrats have only to get HR 188 through the house and it will pass the Senate with relative ease.

Nope.

From reading the Left-leaning responses on this thread, it appears that none of you actually know what you are talking about.

Do you even know what it is?

Apparently not.

All it was is just more Obama buffoonery.

Doesn't do squat for Veterans. Just drains our pockets.

Idiots!

What's more. Veterans aren't too upset over it.
