Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) rode a wave of conservative acclamation to claim victory in the straw poll at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference, winning 25 percent of the votes cast and joining a roster of past winners that includes Mitt Romney, George W. Bush and Paul's father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

Mitt Romney, George W. Bush

Okay, somebody explain what these two klowns have in common with "conservatives". Or is "conservative" still just another word for Republican?

Ah, the mantle has been passed.

Mitt is pretty conservative, at least more than Bush. Bush I thought spent way too much money to be called conservative.

Mitt is pretty conservative,

From time to time. Other times he brags about being more liberal than Ted Kennedy, is pro-choice, pro-pork and, at all times, the father of Obamacare.

Looks like the establishment is gonna have its work cut out for them. I can just imagine the Republican Elite wringing their fists and scrambling to come up with a way to steer the insurgents to the left and force them fall in line. I for one dearly hope the GOP can achieve its much deserved abandonment and resulting third party status before the nation collapses into fiscal oblivion. I can live with the GOP being blamed in the media for the collapse and discarded as pariahs in order to usher in a true conservative option. I have no emotional need to blame the socialists. They aren't capable of accepting responsibility. It isn't possible to overcome emotionally invested blindness and no one should waste time trying. I'm only interested in a last ditch attempt to avert our pending bankruptcy.

There won't be a third party from the right until the "insurgents" leave the Party. And they won't do that because they aren't prepared for a couple of elections in oblivion. Until then, the wackiest of the social/economic conservatives will continue to make the GOP impotent.

Remember, Ronnie Reagan was a "conservative" until he took power, then became just another big deficit, baby killing, tax raising imperialist happy to go along with Tip O'Neill.

Winning the CPAP straw poll is like winning a "Good Effort" medal at the Special Olympics, except you don't get to wear the poll.

And I thought a straw poll was what conservatives got when thinking of Palin's "rack".

I'm all for the insurgents. They should stop pretending to be Republicans. Just be yourself. If your message is strong, get the funding and kick GOP ass. I'd love to see a serious third party in this country. You keep saying it's going to happen, Afk. I'm ready...

I would like to post an honest comment here, but it would appear like trolling. Plus I have few sources other than personal observations and the resources from the following wiki article on Populism. But, I believe an emerging 3rd party in America would resemble something akin to 1933 Germany or the French Revolution.

So far, ONLY moderate republicans won national elections. And bagger candidates lose in close districts or states. See 2012.

As I predicted, the GOP is beginning to realize that Democrats have been siphoning off votes by marginalizing fiscal issues and focusing on social ones like gay marriage and drug legalization. The GOP is now going to attempt to co-opt the Libertarian message as their own. Libertarians can NOT let the GOP do to them what the GOP did to the Tea Party, which was, at its inception, a Libertarian movement. The GOP moved in, embraced the small government message and then slowly started working in God, gay marriage and acceptance of intrusive government.

As long as the GOP panders to the religious right and their army of old, straight white people who poo in their Depends every time someone talks about legalizing pot or gay marriage, they're going to lose.

On the other hand, I think Democrats underestimate the importance of economy to 20 and 30-somethings, who realize that Obama is spending America to death and slowly eroding their rights and liberties. Come to the post-college crowd with an economically conservative, socially liberal, pro-freedom platform and you'll own Washington.
