Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

South African cardinal who helped elect Pope Francis said on Saturday that paedophilia is a psychological illness, not "a criminal condition".

Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier, the Archbishop of Durban, told BBC radio that people who become paedophiles after being abused as children should be treated by doctors.

His comments come as Francis, the first pontiff to hail from Latin America, takes the helm of a Catholic Church rocked by thousands of cases of child abuse by paedophile priests.

Napier, who was among the 115 cardinals who elected Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday, told the BBC: "From my experience paedophilia is actually an illness -- it is not a criminal condition."

As much as I agree that there is no way people choose to be pedophiles, until we can find a cure, society still has to be protected. Also, the Catholic church is one entity that should keep its mouth shut on this subject.

Of course I don't condone pedophilia, but if homosexuality can be an inborn, not chosen, trait, can't the "condition" of pedophilia? If so, the cardinal is right. People can't be labeled as criminals for possessing genetically predisposed traits. Of course acting on them is a different matter.

to be strictly fair, pedophilia is not a criminal condition anymore than being a psychopath is. Acting ons aid tendencies is the crime.

Oh, I knew it. Now we have popes that are as goofy as the left. I once predicted that the next aberration to be declared normal would be pedophilia. First step is that it's a psychological condition; the next step is that it's not by choice but genetic. Here it comes, folks.

[...] I'm sure it is genetic or epigenetic. An error of sorts. Doesn't mean society doesn't need to protect itself. Also, doesn't mean we would be remiss in trying to find a cure. [...]

The organization issuing that warrant is not credible. It's just an activist group pretending through its name to be a court.
