Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, March 13, 2013

The husband of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords went to a Tucson gun store a week ago to buy a .45-caliber handgun and a military-style rifle the day before he appeared with his wife at the supermarket where she was wounded in a rampage two years ago.

It didn't take long for the purchase to draw criticism from both sides of the gun debate.

Mark Kelly said he bought the AR-15-style weapon to draw attention to the relative ease with which people can get the type of gun that the shooter used in the Newtown school and Colorado movie theater killings.

Um, it's supposed to be easy to exercise your second amendment right. The system is working fine. A citizen with no priors bought a weapon, which btw, he had to wait for checks to see if it was used in a crime, more proof the system is working...

"Has Gabby Gifford's husband committed a felony?"

"If Mr. Kelly did not intend to keep the AR-15, but to give it to another, he is committing a felony by being a "straw purchaser" under current law, and he must have stated on the ATF Form 4473 that he was buying it for himself, so he committed perjury on the BATF form, also a felony."

David Gregory's 30 round magazine which was shown on TV was illegal too but he is a friend of the judge so no charges were filed. Laws are for the little people in a progressive world.

Turning the gun over to the police is a swell idea too:

Well if what he says is true and he intended to buy it to prove a point, what point was that. That a law abiding person is able to buy a firearm if they can pass a background check. Also he violated several Federal firearms laws, not including a number of state laws if what he says is true. Form 4473 asks you if you are buying for yourself and NOT for another person.(straw purchase). When he marked yes he violated the law for not only lying on a legal binding Federal document he lied about question 11a: (about being the actually buyer). He has made it clear he had the intent of giving it away to another party which is illegal police or not. Every gun owner needs to let the ATF know of this and I dought this will go anywhere but he has also stated he is going to try this again at a guns show.

Report Violators
If you believe a straw purchase may have been attempted you may want to report these individuals to the local ATF office. Or, you may call the ATF hotline at 1-800-ATF-GUNS.

He was demonstrating how easy it is to buy the gun. He clearly said so. He will hand it in to police after.

It should be as easy as saying something in the public square.

Guns and money as, "speech".

So the more guns or the more money one has, the more speech one has, right?

Is that the Single-Eyebrow Rule?

Too bad just speech isn't speech anymore.

Thank G-d a law abiding citizen was able to fullfill his Constitutional rights easily. That is what we want, right? Or do we want the Bill of Rights subjected to filters, barriers, and the need to prove oneself innocent before they apply?

Total crap. He's a standard lib who wants the political bourgeoisie to live by one standard and impose another standard on the rest of us.

I don't know anyone like that personally.

I do, however, know people who claim to be small-government conservatives but want the gov't regulating sexual matters between adults and who tell liberals to shut their pieholes (or to love it or leave it), to name just two little self-contradictions.

Homosexuality. Gay marriage.

Now be careful. I'm not broad-brushing. I'm saying I actually know people like this. (I've also read comments by people here that fall into this category.) I'm trying to burn someone else's broad brush. : )

Kelly seems in clear violation, if not prosecuted, so be it -

BUT, I for one will further scrutinize his reported actions,
IF as reported I will call the ATF # and DEMAND that this character is FLAGGED in the NICS background system to be rejected on ALL FUTURE PURCHASES

Absolutely. And most people arrested for accessing child porn sites were only doing research or posing as children so they could turn bad guys over to the police.

"Very broad and non-linear. "

Huh? No, I made a specific point about specific people. Not broad, and I don't even know what you mean by "non-linear" here.

"you are creating facts out of thin air to support your absurd claim"

No, I'm not. I don't do that. Why would you assume that I'm a liar? I didn't say that all conservatives are like this or even a large percentage. I was very careful with my language. I'm contesting with my experience a stupidly broad-brush assertion by someone else. I have never met a liberal "who wants the political bourgeoisie to live by one standard and impose another standard on the rest of us." Therefore, Mr. Kelly's behavior is not indicative "standard lib" status. The rest was partly in jest, but also pointing out something important--that there are hypocrites among self-proclaimed conservatives too.

I work hard not to paint with a broad brush.

I shall restate:
Mr. Kelly is part of the political elite and liberal bourgeoisie who feels entitled to live by one standard while imposing a far different standard on the rest of the population.

Happy now?

Leave them alone. They are within the law and, frankly, if someone did that to Mrs. Diablo I would have been buying weapons, too. The reason would not be revenge. It's just that copycats might want to "finish the job" and make a name.
I wish people complained as much about her shooter's ability to walk around stark raving mad for so long without being put in a padded cell long ago. Civil liberties for such people have gone to the extreme.

At least you're pointing to politicians (seemingly) rather than rank and file citizens who happen to be liberal. I still don't know how you'd know that. I also think it's dependent on a concept on which we probably disagree.

"But it's fun and so easy.:-)"

Indeed. That's why it's hard work to not do it. : )~

Was his point that if the gun used in the Colorado shooting was limited to only one of a variety of plastic parts that the bullets would have just bounced off the victims?

Gun control nuts are only barely more sane than Loughner.

"Mark Kelly's 'AR-15 Stunt' Provokes Giffords Photo Leak"

"Mark Kelly's campaign against "assault weapons" such as the AR-15 rifle has sparked a local backlash. On March 13, a Tucson, Arizona radio host published a photograph of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords holding an AR-15 rifle at a gun range. Giffords has since confirmed that the photograph is authentic."

It's not the first time this has happened to her either.
