Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A 6-month-old girl died this morning, a day after she and her father were shot several times outside a home in the South Side's Woodlawn neighborhood, officials said.

The baby was pronounced dead at 6 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. Hospital spokesman John Easton said one gunshot wound caused the fatal injuries.

The girl's father, Jonathan Watkins, 29, was shot in his left side and right buttock and sustained a graze wound to the face, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, fire officials said.

Police said a gunman emerged from a gangway in the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and opened fire. Watkins was shot as he stood by the minivan's open front passenger door changing his daughter's diaper as she lay on the seat, police said.

Since the early 1970s, Chicago and its suburban municipalities have taken a national lead in enacting firearms control legislation.

How's that working out for you?

It's time for the press to give Rahm the same treatment Bush got after Katrina for this violence.

Rahm flew over the shooting at 40,000 feet? Rahm pulled 47 cops off the job for a photo op? Rahm hired brownie to deal with crime?

Or Diablo can't accept the fact that his love of easy access to guns make 6 month olds easier targets than even 6 year olds?

Good point Sames. Murder still happens and rape still happens, even in polite El Paso, so must be time to quit making them crimes. Same with terrorism. After all terrorism is way less deadly than guns for Americans.

Murder, rape, and terrorism are not protected by the Constitution.
