Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A little bunt single turned a World Baseball Classic matchup into a World Boxing Classic. Alfredo Aceves and several players threw nasty punches when a fierce, full-scale brawl broke out in the ninth inning Saturday of Canada's 10-3 romp over Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, a melee that also involved fans and set off skirmishes in the seats. "Whoever says that we're just here as an extra spring training game or we're just here to say we represented our country and then go home obviously didn't see how intense that game was and what it means to everybody that was involved," Canadian slugger Justin Morneau said.

The WBC is failed attempt money making scheme and nothing more. Alot of the top players don't even bother.

But I did enjoy reading this "Canada shortstop Cale Iorg"

I hope he's related to former Toronto Blue Jays Garth and Dane Iorg.

I disagree Sully. I think for Americans it may be a joke, but watching the passion of crowds at these games is surprising. Dominicans, the Japanese, the Taiwanese, Puerto Ricans... these countries are REALLY into it. We are the only ones who don't seem to care one way or the other.

Base brawl? Nonsense.

The Chinese or Japs weren't even playing.

Sounds like it would've been a hell of place to have a bus full of INS agents

Or

A place to kick off the Republican platform on immigration..

I watched the game and the fight. Mexico said it was b/c Canada was running up the score. I believe if Mexico doesn't want to get beat bad then play better.

"Mexico said it was b/c Canada was running up the score."

A controversial rule in WBC competition has to do with getting credit for run differntial. Each team is forced to score as many runs as possible.

#8 I know. I saw the manager for Canada explaing why they had to keep trying to score. Again, I don't have a problem with it. Mexico should play better if they don't want to get beat bad. Although, I don't think run differential should play a part in the tournament. Some games teams are hot and some not.

The Mexicans were clearly too lazy to play hard and were depending on the Canadians to be overly polite.

That's one stereotype that I thought has been turned 180 degrees.
