Forbes also placed Houston in the Number 1 spot on its list of Cities Where a Paycheck Stretches the Furthest, and ranked Houston Number 2 on its list of Fastest Growing American Cities.

The chief reason for relocation to the Houston area is often job related. This is true for people who have moved to Houston through their employers as well as those seeking new or better job and career opportunities. Depressed job markets in other cities have driven people to Bayou City in search of jobs.

Houston's a crap place to visit, and I wouldn't want to live there.

I speak for all Houstonians when I say....please don't ever come here then. Keep your carpetbag somewhere else.

Houston's on Kirby has great Crab Cakes and Screwdrivers. They don't even use TANG. They squeeze real oranges. I watched 'em. Unbelievable.

At Gessner. I know. I ate there last month and about 6 months ago with each of my sons. Been there another time with my rig where we ran up an $6k bill. We had the best steaks and and wines and drinks including Martell XO cognac for dessert.

It is indeed a great steak place. Best one I've been to, I think. I get the 32 oz Porterhouse seared on the outside, cool red in the middle.

You know nothing about BBQ if you think that. Most of the best BBQ places in Texas are all concentrated in Lockhart. None that I can think of are in Houston.

Hitler knows

Living is good! I order steaks from them on line. Nothing beats a well aged steak grilled on a wood fire! Mesquite is the best!

I smoke Brisket all the time! 2 hours per pound at least. Hard to find the Brisket with the fat still on it where I live now.

I agree. It's especially nice to drive a few minutes away and cut my own since it grows wild everywhere in the Hill Country. Also, unlike the store bought stuff, it is green and doesn't need to be soaked first to get a perfect smolder for smoking.

It's easy to find fatty brisket here in SA. Also easy to find is baby goat. Paired with the mesquite in my vertical smoker, I get a great cabrito -- just as good as the local Mexican restaurants do.

Not even the Rodeo cookoff!?!?!

Never been to it, but I'm sure there is good BBQ there. I was thinking more in lines of a restaurant where it's available all year round.

I know lol.

I didn't eat bbq too much in Houston, but what I had was good IMO.

Can't imagine how good it is in Lockhart.

Taste of Texas didn't have Texas wine until I trolled them regularly about it in person & on Facebook. It was all Chile & California. If you're going to have a localism theme, you gotta go all the way. Now the list has stuff from all over Texas and comes on iPads. I recommend Dry Comal Creek with your steak. Been going there since '96.

and if you like drinking, especially local beer, and are in Houston I'm hosting the world first beer tasting with an air show on 6/2 about 30 minutes west in Monaville. :)

One of my stops when I lived in Texas:

pronounced "Krītz" (long "i") as I recall.

Black's is the place to go when in Lockhart. Kreuz and Smitty's are also very good and there is an interesting story of their connection. It's a family feud (or maybe just a cover to drum up business)

If in Llano, Cooper's can compete with Lockhart's wares. They have a wider variety including the best cabrito I've had.

Correct, yav.

Did you know the Smitty's connection?

I've yet to find one I prefer over California's wines. I'll pick up a bottle of the Dry Comal Creek next time I'm in the wine store.

No! I never got too much into the chatter. I lived too far but made it a point to pick up BBQ or eat when I was going through. What's the story, Goatman?

If you want 100% Texas grapes, it's their 2011 Black Spanish. The Black White Spanish series is good if you like sweet wines. The Comal Red XI is kind of a demi-sweet table wine, it's my wife's favorite. I'm waiting on the 2012 cab, the drought should make it a really good year.

Some of the series are small batches. Only 120 cases on the Black Spanish, so you'll probably have to have it ordered for you.

Oregon's Pinot Noir is top notch.

California does Cabernet and Zinfandel better than anyone in the world (Bottle Shock).

You know, zara, that doesn't happen to you by just moving there.

You have to get out and enjoy the selections to get there! That's hard work.

If you'd of told me a year ago today that would be the case, I would have laughed at you and told you to get [bleep].

Too much going on here not to be a part of it.
