North Korea on Thursday vowed to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States, amplifying its threatening rhetoric hours ahead of a vote by U.N. diplomats on whether to level new sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test. "Intercontinental ballistic missiles and various other missiles, which have already set their striking targets, are now armed with lighter, smaller and diversified nuclear warheads and are placed on a standby status," Army Gen. Kang Pyo Yong told a mass rally in Pyongyang. "When we shell (the missiles), Washington, which is the stronghold of evils, .... will be engulfed in a sea of fire."

A January story in the Christian Science Monitor assessed whether North Korea has the capability to reach the U.S. with a long-range nuclear missile. Most experts say no.

The stupid is deep in the Kim family, no doubt. Not to worry..I predict that within 20 years North Korea will be a southern province of China, if not in name, then in fact. China will promise to feed everyone in exchange for installation of a puppet government with established Chinese party officials at the head. Just a matter of time.

When a nation proclaims its intention to nuke a city in the United States, and if that nation does possess nuclear weapons aren't we entitled to strike them before they strike us. Lil Kim needs to be put in his place and China should discipline this brat or expect the United States to do it for them.

This sort of blatant threatening by a country with nuclear weapons that is within striking distance of the US is exactly the reason why IRAN, a country without nukes and, even if it had them, is too far way from the US to launch a nuclear attack, must be made TOP PRIORITY by those in this country who look out for our country's welfare.

Easy to say in Florida ;-)

I consider it a possibility, if not right now, certainly in the future. I thought about it this morning, what would I do if we got warning of an impending missile....

What if the missile isn't accurate? Will the left dismiss it? What if instead of hitting say, SFO, or LA. It hits Sacramento... would the left consider retaliation, or just say they can't aim so its not really deaths, we should restrain ourselves...

Welcome to Israel's reality.....

Do you really think a nuke strike ANYWHERE in America wouldn't have a massive and immediate effect on Florida?

I am saying what I said because he doesn't have the warhead to put on the missile and I really doubt China would allow it to happen if he did have it, nor would Russia: neither of which wants more US troops in South Korea.

Idiots.

It's propaganda. They threaten to nuke us constantly. They threatened to nuke Washington. They don't even have missiles that go that far. They are constantly saying this stuff. It's not directed to us. It's directed internally to their own people.

They play this little game. We sanction them. Kim tells his people how the world is bullying them. He solidifies his power, increases his people's loyalty, and gets to stay in his mansions with the rest of the ruling class. And we all turn a blind eye to China giving them food and resources.

What does it remind me of? The Kardashians. They do something awful. We all ask why anyone pays attention and discuss how awful they are while watching their every move on tv or in tabloids. They stay famous and rich because of it. Rinse and repeat with the occasion celebrity boyfriend.

If a few terrorists can cause 911 we must take this threat seriously. All they need to do is get close to the US and set one off. It doesn't have to be lobbed over on a missile.

I would be watching our borders closely, parking a ballistic missile sub off their coast, and giving them a stern warning, at least.

That is a tremendous idea. Seriously. A B-2 flanked by 4 Raptors enter and leave their airspace completely undetected and demonstrate that if the US decides to bomb the crap out of them they are powerless to prevent it. Actually, scratch that. Just use a couple of cruise missiles armed with these notes. Much cheaper and less risky.

Redial,

I thought it was a good idea in the abstract, but I endorsed it in specificity - my bad.

The point of the comment was to demonstrate unecuivicable military superiority without inflicting actual damage - this is a demonstration of what we could do should you choose to move closer toward a pre-emptive strike.

In short - don't poke this hornets' nest with a stick, or a nuke.

If Nk were snart, they would use one of their [...] nukes and detonate it over the US. Near Kansas. The resulting EMP would produce far greater effects on a much greater number of people than simply targeting a city.

Of course the DRPK would be de-established within 72 hours, but if you're going to do nuke war, go big or go home.

KJU would be the next socialist hero entombed under glass.

The missiles are just a symbol for little Kim to rally people behind him. Their missiles kind of suck so expect another nuclear test.

As far as bombing them. You'd have to be insane to start it first. They have 1.2 million troops buried so deep into the mountains that there's nothing that can touch them, not even nuclear weapons. They have tunnels that can pour a battalion an hour into South Korea. They have tens of thousands of mobile artillery.

The only people who think it's a good idea to bomb NK are the ones who don't live in Seoul.

In a campaign video shown to the far left group, Caucus for Priorities, a month before the January 2008 Iowa caucuses, candidate Obama pledged, "I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space." And he kept his word.

President Obama's 2010 defense budget cut $1.4 billion from the Missile Defense Agency's budget. The cuts included scaling back the Airborne Laser boost-phase program, terminating the Multiple Kill Vehicle and Kinetic Energy Interceptor, canceling the expansion of those same ground-based interceptors in Alaska and California, and delaying funding for interceptor and radar sites in Poland and the Czech Republic.
