Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, March 06, 2013

The White House is canceling tours of the president's famous abode starting next week, saying the budget cuts that went into effect last week are to blame. A phone recording on the call line for White House visitors informs callers that White House tours will be canceled, starting this weekend. "Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House tours will be canceled effective Saturday March 9, 2013 until further notice," the recording says. "Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours. We very much regret having to take this action particularly during the popular spring touring season."

Funny you should say that...

"We have gone on record with a notification to Congress and whoever else that ‘APHIS would eliminate assistance to producers in 24 states in managing wildlife damage to the aquaculture industry, unless they provide funding to cover the costs.' So it is our opinion that however you manage that reduction, you need to make sure you are not contradicting what we said the impact would be," Mr. Brown, in the internal email, said his superiors told him.

#29 This sequester is Obama's doing. His suggestion, he agreed to it. Now he doesn't want to do things he is able to do to make it less difficult for the common man.

He is making sure that his irrational painting of the sequester effects comes to pass in reality, for political purposes.

It will be a ticklish issue, if Democrats and Obama oppose it they will be seen as causing thousands to lose their jobs or have their hours greatly reduced. This has been cynically but well played by Boehner and the Republicans. Obama is looking naive at this moment for even suggesting the sequester.

The Democrats, and liberals in particular are in trouble here. If there is no noticeable change in services, the public is going to ask why not cut more until it hurts, even dare I say why raise taxes. If there is some change it will be viewed as cynical as you just posted.

It's been 4+ years. Obama replace troops in Iraq with contractors and the war in Afghanistan is still going.

Tell me this, how much money was cut from Military spending in the past year? How about a trillion?

On 5 December 2012, the Department of Defense announced it was planning for automatic spending cuts, which include $500 billion and an additional $487 billion due to the 2011 Budget Control Act

I went with my duaghter on the 8th grade trip to DC in 2005. It was the first year they opened up the WH for tours after 911.

All of the work for this season has already been completed. They needed SS#'s and citizen status for checks.

When you get there--there are two people at the gate. There were a couple of folks inside--the viewing portions of the WH.

Much of the WH is blocked off and you can't see anything but maybe 5 rooms. Really small rooms, but the art work was great.

This is bogus--but what do you expect from Obama.

Rcade, the grandstanding is when Obama says the janitors pay is going to be cut and their supervisor has to send a email to tell them that's not true. Grandstanding is when John Kerry announces we are going to send 60 million dollars to aid Syrian rebels aka al queda but, can't find any money for veterans.

Grandstanding is complaining vociferously about being the victim of the policies you supported...

#82 I'm not shocked about the cuts. In fact no one is. I'm shocked at how you can listen to president fear monger and lie about something that's not true. The cuts have started and shock! Nothing has happened.
I'm shocked that O can send money to al queda in Syria and can't take care of veterans?

...I didn't say anything about cuts - I said you were huffing and SHOCKED over the effect of the implementation policies you supported...

...apparently you are only SHOCKED that Da Prez alledgedly said he would cut janitor pay - but would not be SHOCKED if it actually happened?

...then you are SHOCKED that some money goes here instead of there?...we will just ignore the obvious MuslimTerroristEvelNonWhitePer
sonSoTheyMustBeAlQueda non sequitor...

Face it - you are naively SHOCKED that politics are being played and the repukes will lose...

"The Wall Street Journal, in their article, "U.S. Recognizes Syria's Main Rebel Group," would also report:

The Obama administration on Tuesday for the first time released intelligence directly tying a powerful Syrian rebel group to commanders of al Qaeda in Iraq. U.S. officials formally sanctioned the Syrian militia, called Jabhat al-Nusra -- freezing any assets it may have in the U.S. and barring Americans from doing business with it -- because of fears it is gaining disproportionate power among the rebel groups seeking to overthrow Mr. Assad."

It's not me saying al queda is in Syria. It's Obama? But, with one eye you probably can't see that.

#86 They aren't ripping them off yet. They just lied and said they were. So, there supervisor had to send an email letting everyone know Obama was lying when he said that.

You essentially called me a racist for stating that al queda is fighting in Syria and that O is sending them money. I show you O is the one that said it and now you blabber about Idaho and Florida

YOu lose. O can find 60 million dollars to send to al queda but, he can't take care of veterans and your ok with it b/c he's your guy.

Oh...now now..that is NOT what you said. YOU said that O is sending money to Al Qaeda. Funny how you carefully changed your tune once challenged.

I called you a racist because you made a leaping assumption that is not logically supported...

...my assertion is that you did so to tie Da Prez to Al Qaeda - and you did so for specific racial reasons.

So why would you twist the facts to try to support such an obviously erroneous assertion?

...I gave you my guess...this walkingtalkinquacking thing is a duck.

He is sending money to al queda in Syria. He declared a large portion of the fighter al queda and then announced he is sending them 60 million dollars in aid. I can't make you see it if you don't want to.

Does the sequester cut baseline spending?

#105 | Posted by boaz at 2013-03-06 07:37 PM | Reply | Flag:

Now they're saying that Obama could have chosen to either cancel one golf outing or deny children the right to tour the white house.

Obama chose golf.

Typical the cut is nothing but a cut in the increase. What are they doing with the money if they can not provide the same services they provided last year with more money than they got last year.

Where is the money going?

Why does the white house still have a 90tho Calligrapher and 2 assistants. What is she doing that can not be done on a computer?

#108 | Posted by tmaster at 2013-03-06 09:32 PM | Reply | Flag:

report is that the white house tour actually cost 18,000 a week...

same report says

THATS FIVE FREAKIN MINUTES ON AIR FORCE ONE !!!

What is funny to me is the sequester is a cut of less than 2% of the federal government's expenditures. One would think that we have been attacked by evil aliens in mother ships with all the hoopla going on. Even with this "cut",(expenditures are still going up) we will rack up an other trillion dollar deficit. The party is going to end some time, we will all have to pay the fiddler.

As I said before, he could IMMEDIATELY cut out those "conferences everybody in the government has scheduled:

"In its bid to make the sequester as painful as possible, the White House announced Tuesday that it is canceling all visitor tours of the White House "during the popular Spring touring season." This fits President Obama's political strategy to punish the eighth graders visiting from Illinois instead of, say, the employees of the Agriculture Department who will attend a California conference sipping "exceptional local wines" and sampling "tasty dishes" prepared by "special guest chefs."

And if you think for one microsecond that this is not all political, there's THIS!

"The White House announced Tuesday that it is canceling tours of the president's home for the foreseeable future as the sequester spending cuts begin to bite and the administration makes good on its warnings of painful decisions.

Announcement of the decision -- made in an email from the White House Visitors Office -- came hours after The Washington Times reported on another administration email that seemed to show at least one agency has been instructed to make sure the cuts are as painful as President Obama promised they would be.

In the internal email, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service official Charles Brown said he asked if he could try to spread out the sequester cuts in his region to minimize the impact, and he said he was told not to do anything that would lessen the dire impacts Congress had been warned of."
