Crystal Kelley became a surrogate mother. An ultrasound determined the baby had a cleft lip and palate, a cyst in the brain, and a complex heart abnormality. The parent who already had 3 children, 2 of which had medical problems, wanted Crystal to have an abortion, even offering her $10,000 if she got one. Crystal ultimately decided against the abortion and a legal battle ensued.

This is a very complicated situation for one to find themselves in.

It appears things like this will become more common as the movement to place more than two parents on the birth certificate, granting legal custody, takes off.

In regard to the woman carrying the baby, it would have been wise for her to consider this possibility before undergoing the surrogacy process.

Surrogate motherhood ought to be banned. It's bound to lead to crap like this.

Surrogate motherhood has been done for a long time now and if you do it correctly you have a written contract with the person and not a verbl one. Also don't pro choice people scream about a woman right to choose? If the mother does not want the child anymore is it then not up to the Surrogate mother what is done to her body if she wants to continue with it or not? Liberals can't have it both ways.

It is good that all ended as well as could be. This child will still have a lot of medical needs and I am glad she found an adoptive parent to care for her.

I had a friend that had a daughter with a cleft pallet. The surgery and recovery nearly killed her.
