Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, March 04, 2013

An escort who appeared on a video claiming Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) paid her for sex has told Dominican Republic police that she was instead paid to make up the claims in a tape recording and has never met or seen the senator before, sources told the Washington Post. Menendez has denied the prostitution claims and called them entirely false "smears" used by his political enemies. The women's videotaped claims, with their faces obscured, were played on the conservative Web site The Daily Caller.

Looks like Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller has been caught fabricating evidence again.

Tucker fibbed? I'm shocked.

As I posted before, the prostitute claims I doubted.
But Menendez DID violate campaign contribution laws, not just ethics guidelines. He accepted hefty, undeclared in-kind benefits from a person who benefited from Menendez's position and voting.
This guy has to resign. If it were Ron Paul what would you want?

"Daily Caller Editor Tucker Carlson did not reply to phone calls and e-mails requesting comment."

He and his bow tie are ding out at Tonto's house.

Paying a lawyer to pay another lawyer to pay a hooker to lie... yep, it must have been the bow tie.

The Washington Post played a "prostitute shuffle-shell game" Monday in a report attempting to debunk Daily Caller exposé of New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez.

While the Post said it had an affidavit from a woman in the Dominican Republic admitting "fabricated claims Menendez paid her for sex"
- that woman was NOT one of the 2 prostitutes who came forward for the D'Caller interview turning evidence in Menendez scandal

with WaPo AND RCade trying to cover for the guy, you can be sure Mendendez is up to his azz in illegalities, prostitution likely being the least of Menendez violations

Read what the Daily Caller has to say about it. They don't know whether this woman was one of the two prostitutes or not. A response I find a little weird. Especially because they then call everyone and their dogs liars for asserting that she is.

That's complete nonsense. The Menendez prostitution allegations have been fishy from day one. Now that there's evidence of an escort being paid to lie about him, the whole thing looks like a calculated smear campaign.

Exactly. The Caller says, "In reality, the prostitute in the Post's story does not appear to be one of the women we interviewed in 2012."

Does not appear to be? They can't say for sure? The Caller has no idea who its prostitute sources are.

From the story:

Oh, and one final strike against The Daily Caller. Carlson claimed in his tweet that no one from the Post called before they published their story. Post reporter Carol Leonnig writes in the middle of her piece, that "Daily Caller Editor Tucker Carlson did not reply to phone calls and e-mails requesting comment."

#23 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis at 2013-03-05 10:30 AM | Reply | Flag:

It's been established on the DR, however, that at least some riiighties are comfortable with claiming that by reporting an account they find out to be false they aren't lying because they didn't actually write the lie themselves. It's like saying "armed intruders" attacked someone, when you don't know they were armed. That sort of thing. I mean, jeepers.

...sounds like Tucker's kinda modus apperendi, so I'll buy that.

Rcade is right. The hooker angle was fishy from the start because they did not name names as to who made the accusations.
The illegal contributions in kind, however, are enough to make me say Menendez should go. This is no different than Torricelli's acceptance of suits and gifts.

"Washington Post quietly makes major change to Menendez story"

"Without informing readers in the story or elsewhere, on Monday night The Washington Post deleted its explicit claim that the Dominican prostitute who recanted her allegation against Sen. Robert Menendez had appeared in a video posted to The Daily Caller."

"Readers were not notified of the update anywhere on the article page of Leonnig's story, and the time stamp was removed to make it impossible to know when the edits went into effect."

Tucker Carlson, whose internet news outlet is unrelentingly pursuing Bob Menendez on whether or not he had sex with prostitutes, who proclaimed that David Vitter's actual sex with prostitutes was off-limits for discussion, said on July 11, 2007, on a program that bore his first name, "If this were [Democrat] Russ Feingold...I would be up there making the same argument that Russ Feingold's personal [life] ought to be off limits from creeps and scandal mongers like you...who profit from digging into other people's sex lives."

...now YOU - because you have INTEGRITY - are brining up some other "big" problem (that I imagine you will elaborate on once you are told what it is) without ever admitting that accusation fed on far and wide by repukes was an unfounded charade from the get go...

...spare me your smug superiority, one should never try to condescend from the gutter...

I go with Sniper on that one, 1eye. Menendez's BIG problem is explaining why he took all these perks and gifts from someone who benefited from legislation before the senator. He repaid it only after this came to light.
That's a bribe. Sure, lots of them do it in both parties but the protocol is not to have it in the press.
Menendez has to go.
