Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Keith Olbermann is talking to the head honchos at ESPN, possibly about rejoining the sports news giant where he worked from 1992 to 1997. A few months ago, Olbermann sat down to a friendly dinner with ESPN president John Skipper. "We talked sports and politics, and we had a nice chat. He is very interesting," Skipper said. "Clearly he was looking to see if there was an entry point to come back." Olbermann's currently wrapped up in a $70 million lawsuit against Current TV, where he held an ownership stake and the highest editorial position.

Since then there have been other hints that Olbermann is heading to the job where people of all stripes seem to like him best.

If there ever was a perfect person to cover the exploits of Manti Te'o. Olberman has an imaginary soul. But libs love him.

Olbermann was the right man for a time.

Just as Limbaugh did, KO will make a fool of himself because he is a compulsive political loudmouth.
ESPN should have learned after Limbaugh...

Keith at least knew a little bit about sports... he didn't know jack about politics.

True, Corky. Sometimes I hear KO's political utterances and become embarrassed for him because he seems to be incapable of being embarrassed for himself. I say the same about most neocons, too, but Limbaugh has a real genius for being that way on purpose so his name keeps coming up. He's sorta like Alec Baldwin in that respect.

El Rushdie has a was of saying absurd things he really means in a way that some people take as humor.

It isn't.

Get back to us when Rush nails Kim.

Rush went to N. Korea with Rodman????
I don't keep up on celeb crotch bumps, Zat. Don't understand the reference you are making.

So what else is new?

Apparently not much, as far as your social skills go.

Keith is pathetic. He used to host with Dan Patrick. Patrick has his own show and is too big a name to go back and do one liners about a dunk. Yet Keith is begging for the job.

LA Times: "Keith Olbermann wants to return to ESPN, but they don't want him"

John Skipper: "After the dinner, at that point, there was no real appropriate place for Keith to come back, nor did I feel like I was prepared to bring him back,"

Olbermann was great in his days at ESPN, but I'd hate to see him become associated with the sports network in its present shape. ESPN is completely in the tank for the sports leagues it broadcasts and doesn't care about covering them as news any more.

When the car crash at the Daytona 500 Saturday race injured 28 fans, ESPN didn't send a reporter down into the stands to cover the story live. The news was happening right in front of them and they didn't care.

Keith and Dan were one of my favorite comedy teams from the early 90's. I am not even close to a sports fan, but I tuned into Sportscenter looking for them.

"The Whiff."
"Oooh, you're not good."
"Nothing but the bottom of the net."

Rcade, you are 100% correct. All broadcasters are in the tank. I watched the race with a few friends and remarked that someone must have died b/c they would show us Danica taking a dump if they could and yet they kept saying we're not sure about injuries. Also, ESPN hyped Te'o all year and knew the fake girlfriend story before the National Championship game and still wouldn't report it. They waited until they had nothing else to talk about to report on it. But, still Keith is a pathetic hack and deserves every bit of bad luck he gets.

I'm with you Kanrei. They were the best back in the day and ESPN has been trying the same routine ever since.

To be fair, the fuel burns clean and one can walk into it to roast without a visual clue. If I were a reporter, I'd opt for remote coverage.
Plus, the excellent photos one could get of ripped apart people screaming in agony make it on....a few websites but rarely mainstream television.

the question isnt will he be back

the question is will people watch...there HAS to be some blowback with the vile and rotten lies he has gotten away with

I'm OK with Keith doing sports something he has some knowledge of (at least baseball) but he sucked at political commentary (I'd say something less kindly about another wannabe political pundit/sports doofus but I already got my threatening email for the week)

maybe he can do what Dennis Miller should have done, but better.
