One reason more Americans are overweight is because stay-at-home spouses are doing household chores such as vacuuming and laundry less often than in the past, according to a new study published on PLoS One. Researchers found that in 1965 when most stay-at-homes were women, they spent an average of 25.7 hours a week cleaning, cooking and doing laundry and eight hours a week sitting and watching TV. Today, women at home spend an average of 13.3 hours per week on housework and 16.5 hours per week sitting and watching TV. "We need to start finding ways to incorporate movement back into" our hours spent at home, said lead study author Edward Archer. Advertisement
