Though journalist Bob Woodward claimed he was threatened by a senior White House official, the emails tell a different story. "It makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, you're going to regret doing something that you believe in," Woodward said in a CNN interview. The email exchange with White House economic adviser Gene Sperling shows him apologizing to Woodward after a verbal disagreement and telling him, "I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim." Woodward responds, "You do not ever have to apologize to me. ... I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice." Advertisement
