Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, February 26, 2013

In a speech to students in Berlin Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry offered a defense of freedom of speech, religion and thought in the United States. "People have sometimes wondered about why our Supreme Court allows one group or another to march in a parade even though it's the most provocative thing in the world and they carry signs that are an insult to one group or another," he said. "The reason is, that's freedom, freedom of speech. In America you have a right to be stupid -- if you want to be."

Diablo,

I am sure you are right, Kerry is a disgusting, arrogant, elitest that ratted out his own in Veitnam. Then it was proven that his accusations were false, and he couldn't figure out why they torpedo'd him in his presidential run. What a moron.

It did my heart good when he was caught trying to register his yacht in Rhode Island becasue the tax difference from Mass was about 7 million. The Mass voters were so smart they re-elect this slimeball again! Go figure. Guess that is why it is one of the most expensive places to live and they are broke to boot.

@GTJR

Kerry volunteered to go upriver in Vietnam.

he still carries shrapnel to this day.

The military investigated him and found he deserved every single award he received.

Go ahead now and praise W. for his defending Texas against Cuba.

Go ahead now pretend that Romney isn't a disgusting, arrogant, elitist.

And while you're at it pretend like McCain deserved his service to be attacked in 2000.

One Nation, Under Monsanto (Controlled by Rockefeller Trust)

In the United States everything is polluted.

Democracy is polluted with special interests and corrupt politicians.
Accountability is polluted with executive branch exemptions from law and the Constitution and with special legal privileges for corporations, such as the Supreme Court given right to corporations to purchase American elections.

The Constitution is polluted with corrupt legal interpretations from the Bush and Obama regimes that have turned constitutional prohibitions into executive branch rights, transforming law from a shield of the people into a weapon in the hands of government.

Waters are polluted with toxic waste spills, oil spills, chemical fertilizer run-off with resulting red tides and dead zones, acid discharges from mining with resulting destructive algae such as prymnesium parvum, from toxic chemicals used in fracking and with methane that fracking releases into wells and aquifers, resulting in warnings to homeowners near to fracking operations to open their windows when showering.

The soil is polluted with an endless array of toxic substances and now with glyphosate, the main element in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide with which GMO crops are sprayed. Glyphosate now shows up in wells, streams and in rain.

Glyphosate is a powerful biocide. It harms beneficial soil organisms, altering the natural balance in the soil and reducing the disease resistance of crops, thus unleashing diseases that devastate corn, soybean, and wheat crops, and giving rise to a new pathogen associated with premature animal aging and infertility. These developments, Purdue Professor Huber told the Agriculture Secretary, "are threatening the economic viability of both crop and animal producers."

Monsanto is not only sufficiently powerful to prevent any research other than that which it purchases with its funding, but also Monsanto succeeded last year in blocking with money and propaganda the GMO labeling law in California. You should be careful what you eat as it can make you ill and infertile, but you can't even find out what you are eating.

"Monsanto succeeded last year in blocking with money and propaganda the GMO labeling law in California. "

It's impossible to fight Monsanto. They're the [...] Borg. If not stopped they will "assimilate" all of nature. Time for patriots to take direct action against this pillaging, plundering, planet-raping machine.

Gee Tor

You must not have seen the video of the congressional hearings where he basically told congress his fellow soldiers were killing innocent people. How do you explain all of his fellow soldiers turning on him? If one or two did I would say it is sour grapes but all of them? Come on you have to be smarter than that. I for one do not know if he carries shrapnel to this day becasue I was not there. I do not know if he deserved his medals or not and I did not address any of that.

He is an arrognat elitist and if you think Romney is a disgusting arrogant elitist than you did not pay any attention to his campaign. Romney pays his taxes and, as I remember, even left off his standard deduction increasing his taxes. Romney gave all of his inheritence to charity and that has beeen verified. He has given millions to charity. So what kind of charitable things has Kerry done? Attempt to avoid paying taxes in Mass? He has done virtually nothing, although he is good at marrying rich widows. Fact is he is a slimeball that has no respect for the military. Who can forget the " and if you don't go to college you end up in Iraq" comment. Don't try to make Kerry something he is not.

Trouble is, GTJR, he is essentially correct and makes that most American mistake of saying something fundamentally true while at the same time sounding stupid. Compare with "Back to normalcy," as opposed to the correct "Back to normality."
The only reason I started the thread is it offers both left and right a chance to really make some zingers. So far, so good.

You know, if you critics had actually read Kerry's entire statement in context you may have, like I did, found it to be an eloquent and patriotic explanation of freedom in the US. He was describing how we are free here even to express ideas that are unpopular and that this freedom is precious to us.

@ GTJR

Kerry served with honor in one of the most danger filled places in the world.

Mean while Bush was partying in Texas and Romney was chilling in French wine country.

As for what Kerry said when he got back maybe no one ever told you but yes bad things were happening in Vietnam and yes some of the people doing them had come from a different continent.

Do you really want me to name these acts in public?

Do you care so little about your country that you'd want others to join you in dredging up the horrors of that war all this time later?

Here's a perfect example: First we'll take $27 trillion from taxpayers and give it to Bankers engaged in fraud and gambling. We will continue to support those Bankers with nearly free money at the Fed window and buy their toxic securties. Then we'll declare a budget crisis because of a $16 trillion debt caused by offshoring jobs, unnecessary wars and the bailout and launch an attack on the social safety net. Everyone will be so busy making ends meet they won't resist but if they do we're prepared to beat and jail them into obediance. We'll blame welfare queens while we suck a thousand time more on the Government teet. We'll even use a black man as cover, because we are so clever and so rich.
