Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Following a blistering loss in the 2012 presidential election, discussion about social issues, particularly gay rights, has emerged as a potentially-problematic area for right-of-center politicians. And in an era colored by increasing support for homosexual marriage, the pressure is mounting. This week, more than 80 prominent Republicans, including top advisers to President George W. Bush, four former governors and two members of Congress signed a legal brief that proclaims gay people have the right to marry under the U.S. Constitution. The document will be submitted to the Supreme Court this week, where it is purportedly intended to add to the voices that will be heard during two upcoming gay rights cases.

Keep calling every moderate Republican a RINO. Soon you fruitcakes will find yourself alone in the wilderness.

It's funny to hear the gay marriage crowd tell us that "all Americans should be treated equally under the law" (Huntsman, among many), then pass laws advantageous to married Americans over nonmarried Americans. Preferential tax rates, the ability to have a Social Security survivorship benefits paid, leaving tax-free money to a spouse. The real discrimination isn't between gay and straight, but between married and not.

Can't blame the Act Up! and Queer Nation crowd from fighting for all this. That's where all the money is.

UBD: I don't know you from Adam. So, I suppose it is possible that you really are as dense as your post in #4 would reflect. But that seems unlikely. That being said, how can you possibly be so mentally ham-fisted as to be unable to sort out the different issues involved. Marriage, and what constitutes marriage, is one issue. Tax breaks and financial benefits that accompany marriage is another completely separate issue. When you conflate the separate issues like that, you sound as if you are not even interested in serious discussion.

LMAO. They're not separate issues.

Moder8,

What is your opinion about churches that would still reject gay marriage and refuse to acknowledge marriages between the same sex?

Some will still openly argue that Gay Marriage is wrong and homosexuality is a sin.

What should be done about those churches?

Ugly,

I thought your post was one of the best ones I've ever read about the Gay Marriage issue.

Hit the nail on the head.

If it weren't for the things you mentioned, I wonder how much support it would really have.

#7 | Posted by BillJohnson

Done about those churches? Nothing. Nobody forces a grown adult to be a member of any church they don't wish to be a member of.
But why one would want to cling to hateful doctrines that discriminate against homosexuals and teach that their behavior is an abomination is another issue for another thread.

#9 | Posted by moder8 at 2013-02-26 08:24 PM | Reply | Flag:

This is all a conundrum for Bill, who, as a gay man, has forced himself to live in a straight relationship.

Also, Bill, there are many, many churches that accept homosexuals and wed them.

Its just not currently recognized by the state.

By the way Ugly,

It's funny to hear that "all Americans should be treated equally under the law" (Huntsman, among many), then pass laws advantageous to married Americans over nonmarried Americans. Preferential tax rates, the ability to have a Social Security survivorship benefits paid, leaving tax-free money to a spouse.

FTFY.

Rights provided to married couples should have no bearing on whether the couple is homosexual or heterosexual.

the rest of your statement is BS propaganda. Please, stay in China, and invite your Tea Party brethren to join you there.

Ugly's old alias was "RightisRight".

Vernon lived in the Philippines.

But they both sound the same. Spouting out talking points from the other side of the planet.

At least Rigel mainly comments on threads that deal with the middle east.

Two years from now, American gays will be getting married--whoopee!

Two years from now? Its already legal in several states and many countries worldwide. Did you write that post two years ago and decide to share it with us now?

the mullahs will again be running Afghanistan

Good for them, we shouldn't have ever been in Afghanistan in the first place. Also, are the Taliban and Mullahs the same thing? Or are you confusing Afghanistan with Iran?

entitlement spending will literally be drowning out every other item on the federal register, and U6 unemployment will hover at 19%, and won't be coming down for another decade.

Oh Noes! Doom and Gloom! Y2K! The Mayan Apocalypse! Jesus' second coming! and now this! You win Ugly, I am so scared I will just vote Tea Party from here on out. I mean, If Sarah Palin wasn't protecting us against the Russians from her front porch we'd probably all be commies by now!

[...] Okay Ugly, there's a married couple, husband dies, spouse should be entitled to the husband's pension.

how does this right get provided to a single person?

divorced? WTF? Okay, I divorce my wife and in 6 years from now I die, unwed, she should get the rest of my money?

You're not making any sense ugly.

You should be able to leave your money to whomever you want. And if that person is your wife or your gay lover or your next door neighbor or a circus klown, the tax should be the same for everybody. Duh.

Gay marriage will never really catch on. Look at the places it's legal, and you're talking just a few hundred couples. And the single gays will still be discriminated against by a tax system designed to support married people who already have enough, and which we pay for besides.

But who cares about them? There's a gravy train, and this time it's gay libbies lined up at the trough. Gotta make room.

I don't know what you mean by "catch on," but is is becoming increasingly more accepted by American citizens...that live here.

"But why one would want to cling to hateful doctrines that discriminate against homosexuals and teach that their behavior is an abomination is another issue for another thread."

On the other hand, Moder8, what is hateful about concluding a behavior is in its nature wrong?
It is not hateful. It is a doctrine which you forget is balanced by other doctrines as far as Christians go at least.
The genius who painted the Sistine Chapel was a flamer. How long would he had lasted in Qum or Mecca?
Our Western civilization long ago got liberal about balancing such things....even before liberals assumed they had been there first.

Or Uganda, where homosexuals are *still* threatened with violence and death in the name of Jesus as supported by the national government.

You already can, its called a will.

And if that person is your wife or your gay lover or your next door neighbor or a circus klown, the tax should be the same for everybody. Duh.

Are you suggesting that people are taxed differently based on being married or single, or are you talking about how people file their taxes?

Gay marriage will never really catch on.

Keep telling yourself that.

Look at the places it's legal, and you're talking just a few hundred couples.

LOL! Did you pull that out of your..? of course you did.

And the single gays will still be discriminated against by a tax system designed to support married people who already have enough, and which we pay for besides.

You pay for? You moved to Commie China Ugly, WTF are you talking about? Also, at least single gays would have to opportunity to get married with people they have been living with for years and decades.

Why don't you obfuscate the situation with more of your nonsense?

But who cares about them?

You don't care about them. You just care about filibustering.

There's a gravy train, and this time it's gay libbies lined up at the trough. Gotta make room.

Hey Ugly, this may blow your mind, being gay isn't a political stance. There are gay conservatives and gay independents... And the difference between your bogus position and mine is I want to give them the same rights as heterosexuals presently have.

You, like the GOTP, just want to make a lot of noise and not do a thing. [...]
