Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, February 25, 2013

Britain's most senior Roman Catholic cleric announced his resignation on Monday, a day after being accused of "inappropriate acts" with priests, saying he would not attend the conclave to elect a new pope. The cleric, Cardinal Keith O'Brien, said that he had submitted his resignation months ago, and that the Vatican said Pope Benedict XVI had accepted it on Feb. 18. However, the timing of the announcement -- a day after news reports of alleged abuse appeared in Britain -- suggested that the Vatican had encouraged the cardinal to stay away from the conclave.

The move is bound to raise questions about other cardinals. It comes amid a campaign by some critics to urge Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles not to attend the conclave because of his role in moving priests accused of abuse to other parishes.

"Cardinal"? It says, "Cardinal," right? As in Vatican, the Church, that kind of "Cardinal."

That's just the norm these days.

I was afraid something might've happened to Claudia Cardinale.

[...] this corruption has propagated in the US for around 100 years or more:

.. Those involved believe the cardinal abused his position. "You have to understand," explains the ex-priest, "the relationship between a bishop and a priest. At your ordination, you take a vow to be obedient to him.

"He's more than your boss, more than the CEO of your company. He has immense power over you. He can move you, freeze you out, bring you into the fold … he controls every aspect of your life. You can't just kick him in the balls."

All four have been reluctant to raise their concerns. They are, though, concerned that the church will ignore their complaints, and want the conclave electing the new pope to be "clean". According to canon law, no cardinal who is eligible to vote can be prevented from doing so. ..

The Catholic Church needs to get to the bottom of this radical gay cabal within the Church hierarchy which is behind the covering up of all the charges of pedophilia with young boys. Pope Benedict did right in resigning, not because he did anything wrong himself but because now that these revelations have come to light, it's going to take a younger and physically stronger Pope to demand these gay priests be thrown out of the Church for good. "A new broom sweeps clean" and hopefully a new Pope will too.

How many incidents must occur before they stop being "isolated"?

How many pedophile priests or molester-protector cardinals must be discovered before this becomes the norm rather than the exception?

THIS IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NOW.

This is what you support if you send them your money.

(As well as the spread of STDS and overpopulation)

The church today still wants to end a woman right to choose. So their religious can have their way with the kids in their orphanages. Maybe if they got another woman pope, like Pope John VIII she could really clean house.

Yes Pope John VIII was a woman, look it up! It was a she/he a woman who past her self off as a man.

"The Catholic Church needs to get to the bottom of this radical gay cabal within the Church hierarchy which is behind the covering up of all the charges of pedophilia with young boys.""

You have evidence that the pedophilia was some how related to a gay cabal within the Vatican? I doubt that the two things are necessarily related. Apparently within the Vatican they had an environment where gay priests would interact in a sexual nature with each other, OK, it's against church teachings, but it is not the same thing as child molestation.

As a Catholic, I was shocked and ashamed when I read this article today --

.
"The Catholic Church's Secret Gay Cabal"

Now that this ongoing pedophilia mess and the ones in the Church heirarchy responsible for its cover-up have been exposed in this gay cabal expose, it's more than past time for the soon-to-be new Pope to stand firm and clean out this nest of perverts -- from the top on down. There are so many good and decent priests in the Church but sadly it's this group who get the Church all its bad headlines.

Danni - just now read your #8

Read the link in my #9 and see what you think. And apparently that's only the tip of the iceberg. Sad, but it's a problem the Church needs to deal with -- and fast.

Sad, this does seem to be the norm for the Catholic church. But it is always that way when you have unchecked authority.

#12 | Posted by rearendhat at 2013-02-25 09:03 PM | Reply | Flag:

Chris, yes it's time for a new Pope to clean thing out, by changing the church laws which make things like the pedopaelia inevitable by giving priests a healthy outlet for normal sexual needs. Let priests have sexual relationships with both men and women. Let them be part of the human race. Let's hope for a Pope who ends the requirement of celibacy for priests, I suspect this will be the last chance for the church, if they don't take it they will become increasingly irrelevant to modern society.

This would be a good time for you to consider a different spiritual tradition, Christine. Why not the Druids? They seem kinda cool.

It is a shame that you do not know the difference between a Pedophile and a Gay person.
Gay do not go after Children pedophiles do.
It is a completely different sexual thing,
really you should try to educate your self on this.

I'm certainly not saying that every gay man is a pedophile. That's idiotic. However, if you've been following this particular problem within the Church, apparently quite a number of gay priests and pedophilia with young boys/men seem to have gone hand in hand. And gay priests within the Church who were NOT involved in any way with pedophilia were silenced when they complained. I don't care -- this mess is taking down the respect for the Church and I and millions of other Catholics are fed up with having to hear about it. Just do whatever it takes to clean it up.

Let's get this done immediately. It's really urgent. The world simply cannot have a normal existence without an old man parading around in a gilded costume waving his hands over the poor, the hungry, the suffering, and the oppressed.

What are they waiting for?

In my youth - but who's counting? - I lived in an almost totally Catholic community. (There were a few Jews out and about looking for a minyan, some Episcopalian, a Syrian and Lebanese or two of indeterminate spiritual affiliation as well, but, basically, Catholic.) My father was a lapsed Catholic, although he retained a respectful attitude towards the tradition while regarding the dogma as, well, simply put, ridiculous. Along the way I went with my friends to catechism, accompanied them on retreats, took instruction from a priest, immersed myself in the beliefs, very seriously considered converting, the whole bit.

In the end, I learned a lot. And one of the things I learned was an appreciation for the vehemence with which the Church has traditionally attacked - and hounded - those who veer from its teaching.

Boy, have the chickens come home to roost in the coop of the finger pointers and judgment callers.

As for this Cardinal--it's about time and I agree with CC that a new clean sweep to get rid of the filth within the church needs to be done.

Start protecting the victims instead of protecting the damn priests.
