All operations by international special forces in the province have also been ordered to stop with immediate effect.

Wardak is seen as a gateway for the Taliban to target Kabul, says the BBC's Karen Allen in the capital.

She says this move to expel US forces has come as something of surprise for the Americans.

A week ago, Mr Karzai banned Afghan forces from calling in foreign air strikes.

KABUL: Afghan President Hamid Karzai demanded Sunday the withdrawal of US special forces from Wardak and Logar within two weeks, accusing them of fuelling "insecurity and instability" in the volatile provinces neighbouring the capital Kabul.

"In today's national security council meeting… President Karzai ordered the ministry of defence to kick out the US special forces from Wardak and Logar provinces within two weeks," said presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi.

"The US special forces and illegal armed groups created by them are causing insecurity, instability, and harass local people in these provinces," he told a press conference.

The announcement would be another blow to the prestige of US-led forces as they prepare to withdraw combat troops from the war against Taliban insurgents by the end of next year.

A commander who gives up the moral high ground dooms his whole nation. We've been doomed since the Bushes. All problems solved by double-down = beyond stupid. Its intentional destruction of the USA with global enslavement in mind.

Hell is an awful reality and I wish it on nobody. NOBODY.
Nor is Obama a torturing scum bag. I disagree with his politics and that is all. Bush is not such a man, either.

You're a life in prison advocate opposed to the death penalty I take it? In order that one would have as much time as possible for a person to come to repentance? Otherwise I have a little difficulty reconciling your post above with your previous statements on the Dorner case.

We should have invaded and killed as many Taliban/Al Queda as possible and, if it were competently, gotten to Bin Laden at Tora Bora and then pulled out. There was zero reason to engage in "nation building" there.

All US forces should be pulled out immediately. I honestly think that Karzai wants us out because he's going to flee the country himself and retire to some island paradise as soon as we leave. There is no way he survives for very long in Afghanistan.....
