Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, February 25, 2013

Dave Gilson, Mother Jones: By cutting off federal funding for research and stymieing data collection and sharing, the National Rifle Association has tried to do to the study of gun violence what climate deniers have done to the science of global warming. No wonder: When it comes to hard numbers, some of the gun lobby's favorite arguments are full of holes.

From the article:

Myth #3: An armed society is a polite society. Fact-check: Drivers who carry guns are 44% more likely than unarmed drivers to make obscene gestures at other motorists, and 77% more likely to follow them aggressively.

* Among Texans convicted of serious crimes, those with concealed-handgun licenses were sentenced for threatening someone with a firearm 4.8 times more than those without.

In states with Stand Your Ground and other laws making it easier to shoot in self-defense, those policies have been linked to a 7 to 10% increase in homicides.

Myth #1: They're coming for your guns.

Maybe but registration of weapons allows confiscation of specific weapons. The Weimar republic took care of the registration and the Nazi's took care of the collection from the Jews and we know how that ended.

Myth #2: Guns don't kill people -- people kill people.

This is so dumb only a liberal could grasp any logic here. Cars, guns, hammers, knives, and box cutters are still inanimate objects and always will be. When guns start aiming themselves I'll pay attention to this argument.

Statics prove that. Hows that gun thing working for you in Chicago?

Myth #4: More good guys with guns can stop rampaging bad guys

I prefer: More good guys with car antenna's can stop rampaging bad guys.

In the last several shootings the shooter chose weaponless targets and killed themself as soon as a weapon was present.

Homicide, suicide, and accidental death happens with or with out guns, always has and always will.

Myth #6: Carrying a gun for self-defense makes you safer.

This is a personal decision and the choice to carry has a long history of saving lives. Do the ending deposits for a business and be the last one out with a bunch of cash and see how safe you feel with your car antenna in your hand?

Interestingly, the Nazis deregulated rifles and shotguns, as well as ammo; lowered the age at which a gun could be bought; extended the period during which permits remained in effect.

Assault weapons ban effect, zip zero zilch/Columbine. As a general rule we always need to enforce any rule before writing more. Folks we have a mental health and cultural crisis and you can legislature yourself out of that. This is just more liberal feel good tripe

Remember, they aren't coming for your guns you silly Right-wingers. Except for when they are:
New York - In what will likely infuriate plenty of legal gun owners, New York's Gov. Andrew Cuomo said this afternoon that he'd like the state's legislature to consider all options in debating new gun control measures, including "confiscation" of "assault" weapons or "mandatory sales to the state" and "permitting."

Missouri - Democrats in Missouri introduced startling anti-gun legislation that would require gun owners to hand over their legally purchased so-called "assault weapons" to "the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction" within 90 days.

Under the proposed bill, "Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution."

California - Law abiding gun owners in California have to feel uneasy after Democrats rolled out a massive gun control package on Thursday, which includes strict ammunition regulations and even a bill that allows potential confiscation of the state's 166,000 legally registered semi-automatic rifles.

Washington - Forget police drones flying over your house. How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?

As Orwellian as that sounds, it isn't hypothetical. The notion of police home inspections was introduced in a bill last week in Olympia.

[.....] "In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection."

FAIL - what a stupid hit piece. Are people really dumb enough to read that like Pan above? And no I don't think he's really that dumb but rather must be motivated to see the USA destroyed while he profits.

1. just DUMB. Ever nation that's ever registered confiscated
2. Doesn't mention higher guns means less total violence like muggings rapes and home invasions
3. Aremed is polite - or do you want to continue picking on or mugging the nerd with a gun? Killing a criminal maybe 'homicide' but that doesn't mean its murder - it only means the person was killed by another person. Conflating facts again.
4. Gun-free-zone = unsafe Try Chicago
5. THAT people have guns at home makes EVERYONE safer. No guns = massive increase in home-invasions. Proof = Austrailia after gun grab.
6. Backwards facts again - criminals with guns arent as safe? Good!
7. Women ARE safer if there's less crime, especially RAPE. Focused on short-sighted statistics of domestic abuse.
8. Disproves its own point via Japanes status on same games.
9. Gun ownership is decreasing because of BIG PHARMA, FDA, Dr Pusher - and those idiots on such drugs who can't be trusted with guns should be locked up - like if we can't trust them to shoot they'd better not drive, have even have a knive to eat with... they could stab the people at the dinner table.
10. The only thing the laws prove is that bad laws are ineffective. And the trend is toward unconstitutional laws that aren't really laws at all but rather criminal government prescriptions to do evil to innocent people. It means the real criminals are the "law makers".

Sorry but the medical doctors at the CDC have no business studying guns because they are anti-gun and were caught creating biased studies.

When you see a study that tells doctors when someone gets shot with an assault riffle you must cut out everything that touched the bullet creating huge scares under a theory that the bullet contains some kind of poison. Yet the truth is these guns are just hunting riffles with different stocks. Even army doctors treating machine gun wounds would not do what this study said to do. When you see these kinds of fraudulent studies that say a gun is more likely to be use to hurt you that an intruder yet millions of guns are in homes and its clear this study was untrue.

Anti-Gun doctors have no business studding violence and guns. Thats why it has been banned because they got caught doing false fake studies.

When it comes to hard numbers gun control is failing to stop gun crimes in every city or state its been tried in.

We are told that oil companies should not study global warming. But its some how OK for anti-gun doctors at the CDC to study something they know nothing about GUN violence? This is nonsense.

**** What conscientious and irrefutably honest SOCIAL AUTHORITY in America should Gun Owners "surrender" their weapons to...the Religious Leaders or the Politicians? This is something extremely important but nevertheless Mother Jones overlooked and ignored it and the question is why? Myth #1: They're coming for your guns.
Fact-check: No one knows the exact number of guns in America, but it's clear there's no practical way to round them all up (never mind that no one in Washington is proposing this). Yet if you fantasize about rifle-toting citizens facing down the government, you'll rest easy knowing that America's roughly 80 million gun owners already have the feds and cops outgunned by a factor of around 79 to 1.
