Deadbeat Dad Owes $1.2 Million

A New York man called the government's most wanted deadbeat parent pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to owing more than $1.2 million to three children from two marriages. Robert Sand, 50, told the judge he fled to Florida and Thailand working odd jobs to avoid payment. He faces up to four years in prison. "Neither court orders nor the familial bond meant anything to him as he fled to avoid his obligations," U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch said.

The court should neuter this guy and all other deadbeat parents.

I don't know how old the children are, but 1.2 Mil is excessive for 3 children. How on earth can this man live on his own and still make payments.

Funny that I see mothers who have 6+ children from different fathers, recieve govt support and welfare. Yet the dads are free and clear.

Some people know how to play the game, some don't.

Maybe this guy should just run for election to Congress. It worked so well for Joe "I'm not the former Eagle" Walsh. Not only did he avoid jail time, but he was also able to plead "poverty" because his Congressional pay wasn't enough to make payments.

This breaks down to 40k per year per child over the last 10 years.

Mothers are supposed to have their income (if any) count for half of the child support too.

It's highly unlikely he will ever be able to repay the arrears. He should not have run--idiot. He should have gone back to court to adjust the support if his job wasn't making that much.

Good luck on selling cars in this economy.

Child support is supposed to be nothing more than a calculation which factors in both parents incomes and is not to exceed 50% of gross/net income. Sounds like there is more to the story if a used car salesman gets saddled with what amounts to $120k yr in child support. Unless the used cars he was selling were Rolls Royces. Maybe co-mingling of alimony and child support or maybe an activist judge. Activist judges are common in family court.

It means one parent is WHORE'ING the child for money. I would have rather my X pole danced. At least my child woulnd't have had a pimp instead of a mom.

Of course child support laws appeared before there was a serious issue with fathers abandoning their children, right?
