Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Three sisters from a devoutly Catholic family have seen their personal and political careers ruined by a scandal that began with, of all things, a letter to some nuns. Thursday's conviction of suspended Pennsylvania state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin along with her aide and sister, Janine Orie, on campaign corruption charges mean they might join a third sister -- former state Sen. Jane Orie -- in state prison.

A fourth "evil Catholic" thread! The DR is outdoing itself.
I am still waiting for atheists and agnostics under investigation or convicted to have their beliefs highlighted in the first paragraph of articles. How many times have we read "A devout Unitarian was convicted today...." in print?

I thought it was an "Evil Republican" thread.

How do you tell the difference?

Maybe a little slave labor at the Magdalene laundries would rehabilitate these criminals.

Well, when the day comes that atheists and agnostics are as self-righteous as the holy rollers you'll have your wish granted.

"...this is about evil politicians who happen to be republicans and catholics.."

So again I ask, when does an article about a politician and party having a corrupt member inlude a description of religous ar non-religious views other than Christians and Orthodox Jews?
'A rigid atheist was convicted today of political corruption...'
Never read that, do you?
'A Darwinist was indicted today for online fraud...'
Never see that one either, do you?
Please explain!

It's easy.

According to some people (you maybe?) those people are Godless heathens.

Hence, moral behavior is not expected of them.

Being devout Catholics, you'd expect these gals to be saints.

Easy, isn't it?

Really? I never posted any such people are 'godless heathen' yet you claim such openly as if you had a brain.
Moral behavior is found among the ancient pagans, JPW. Read what THEY wrote if you find Christians too tasteless. Plato/Socrates come to mind.
Your evasion is most instructive: why not identify the religious beliefs of all arrested criminal?
You have no answer, that's why.

Not at all.

Reread it or brush up on your reading comprehension skills.

And although I used weasel words you can't deny the fact that the discussion of whether moral behavior is or isn't dependent on the presence of God has occurred. On many occasions through uncountable threads.

Glad to see you part company with Zed, exps ect.

And I only find Christians tasteless when they're corn fed.

Your inability to grasp a basic point is also most instructive.

When one lives by their moral superiority, or claims to adhere to a belief system which promotes or practices such superiority, it's only human nature to take glee in their downfall to typical mortal status.

We humans love to put others and often ourselves on pedestals.

We love it even more when others fall as it only makes our pedestal that much higher.

The Orie family needs to go. This is again a family that felt they had a destiny to rule. I know you lefties want to make this all about morals and religion but it's not. It's about people thinking they are the ruling class and as such above the law. You should all look in your own party, you will find a lot of them there telling you how to run your life.

Out of curiosity did they use their devout Catholic credentials as a positive thing when campaigning?

And you'll find plenty of instances of Dems being called out on behaviors that is out of place within the box they're filed in in one's head.

As I've said, I don't think pointing out their religion is an anti-religious jab, it's highlighting a belief they hold that's out of place in respect to their behavior.

That day has long passed, lmao.

"Happily, the backlash against neo-atheism has begun, inspired by the cult's own intolerance.

In the Christmas issue of this magazine, Dawkins interviewed Hitchens. Halfway through, Dawkins asked:

"Do you ever worry that if we win and, so to speak, destroy Christianity, that vacuum would be filled by Islam?"

At dinner at the restaurant in Bayswater we all laughed at this, but our laughter was uneasy. The history of attempts to destroy religion is littered with the corpses of believers and unbelievers alike. There are many roads to truth, but cultish intolerance is not one of them."

Monotheist cults are waging war on heretics. Christians would be burning "neo-atheists" at the stake if they were still in control of the State.

Of course, they would, Nulli.

True. There's a reason that history books refer to the era of Christian rule as "the dark ages."

Yes but it is secondary to the fact that old political families feel that they are above the law and not restrained by the limits of morals or laws.

Thank you, you've proven my point to Diablo.

I'm only addressing Diablo's whine that their Catholic beliefs were mentioned. I'm sure there are many other reason besides them being Catholic to explain their corruption (in case it's not clear, I don't think them being Catholic is a reason at all).

#20 | Posted by jpw at 2013-02-23 03:53 PM | Reply | Flag:

Do understand that the left despises religion because religions have a 'code' that judges behavior deemed to immoral and the left CANNOT stand to be judged. They are 'above' moral codes as they have none (i.e., amoral) and it is extremely painful that anyone judge them.

Hense, whenever they find someone who has 'failed' in their beliefs, they (the left) feels compelled to point it out with extreme prejudice in order to make themselves feel (in their pathetic views) superior {i.e., feel better about themselves).

ps: Note that the above is posted by someone who is in no way considered religious as have not been in a church since return from Vietnam in the early 70s and whose wife is Wiccan, but can easily understand why the vile contempt the left has for religious people.

HAPPY TO EXPLAIN
None of these groups try to force their beliefs on other groups. Once they start pushing that everyone follow their rules fair game. I am all for catholics telling other catholics that they cannot use birth control or marry someone of the same sex, but when they say that two episcopalian men that marry in their church does not count because Catholics do not approve I have a big problem, or the Jewish woman that wants her health care to cover birth control pills to not be covered because the catholic church does not allow it, a big problem.

I have a 'code' that tells me that raping children, or apologizing/obfuscating for child rape is wrong.

Does the Vatican?

Mostly because it is really really tough for a "rigid atheist" to ever get elected to public office in the first place.

Maybe you should be asking yourself why that is.

THomewood and Alex did a great job of explaining also.

The string pullers of the media and Democratic Party typically promote the propaganda that Christians are inherently evil people so as to convince the sheeple.

The first sentence of the article said they were three devout Catholics. I do wonder if their names were Cohen if the fact they were devout Jews would be highlighted as such?

Of course it wouldn't because the media is biased and one sided. Christians open game and Jews defended.

No kidding. Xtian views are held in much deeper respect by the media, lest they be offensive and get sued, then other insane belief systems.
s dumb as the 9-11 truther crowd, and the UFO dunces are, their particular bit of fantasy is much more believable than, say:

Noah's ark
Adam and Eve
The resurrection after the crucifixion

All of these things are treated with respect by the news, while the former group is given only derision. UFO's landing in the midwest to sodomize rednecks is stupid, but more likely than any of the crap you hear at church.

My point is that the string pullers of the left such as MSM operate under a double standard when it comes to religion. Go to any leftist forum group and note how many posts target Christian culture vs how many exist that target Judaism or any other demographic. They allow open season on certain demographics while others are a protected species not open for discussion.

Whenever someone criticizes Judaism they get accused of anti-semitism immediately. That gets old.
