Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, February 23, 2013

Mohsin Hamed: On Monday, my mother's and sister's eye doctor was assassinated. He was a Shiite. He was shot six times while driving to drop his son off at school. His son, age 12, was executed with a single shot to the head. Tuesday, I attended a protest in front of the Governor's House in Lahore demanding that more be done to protect Pakistan's Shiites from sectarian extremists. These extremists are responsible for increasingly frequent attacks, including bombings this year that killed more than 200 people, most of them Hazara Shiites, in the city of Quetta.

Minority persecution is a common notion around the world, bringing to mind the treatment of African-Americans in the United States, for example, or Arab immigrants in Europe. In Pakistan, though, the situation is more unusual: those persecuted as minorities collectively constitute a vast majority. ...

At the heart of Pakistan's troubles is the celebration of the militant. Whether fighting in Afghanistan, or Kashmir, or at home, this deadly figure has been elevated to heroic status: willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, able to win the ultimate victory, selfless, noble. Yet as tens of thousands of Pakistanis die at the hands of such heroes, as tens of millions of Pakistanis go about their lives in daily fear of them, a recalibration is being demanded. The need of the hour, of the year, of the generation, is peace.

For those of us who have developed a skewed or jaundiced view of Pakistan, this is insightful. Either intentionally or unintentionally it raises the ultimate question as to what it means to be Pakistani in a fractured diverse society.

Actually,

Pieces like this scare people like Rigel. He knows his country is at heart a fundamentalist regime. He knows Sharia law is but a decade away.

This is only going to make him revamp his escape planning and which country he should choose...

He knows Sharia law is but a decade away.

Sharia Law (saudi version) has been "only a decade away" since 1950.

Oo Boy... how much longer? LOL

As for the guy behind the Shia killings...

Pieces like this

... in the opinion pages from a man who doesn't even live here. LOL

So he is afraid to go to Balochistan??? (it's in the article and an example of his typical whining)

We just went to Balochistan and made a video which I posted on the Retort a few weeks ago (the ship-breaking video). Nobody shot at me while I was there. LOL

his escape planning and which country he should choose...

If there is imminent threat of nuclear war, I sure as hell won't choose a hell-hole like the US to go to where gun killings and school shootings happen every second.

I have to means to go to Switzerland for example, which is light-years ahead of the US.

Or an island in the Indian Ocean. LOL

Switzerland also has more blondes... the real kind... compared to the peroxide-fake-blondes the US is full of.

Unlike Canadians, I do not need some American for back-up.

Who the heck is "Gavril"?

And whoever he is, reading his profile I can see he has done something you still haven't learned to do....

That is, creating threads of his own. LOL

And while we're at it, do please change your name.

I don't want to be mistaken for you. It has already happened more than once.

I told you he had a "backup plan". Notice he doesn't have the "means" to go to another muslim nation.

I told you he had a "backup plan".

Rich people ALWAYS have a back-up plans.

Mine kicks in only if I sense a danger of nuclear war.... not some fantasy mullah take-over.

Notice he doesn't have the "means" to go to another muslim nation.

Give me a Muslim nation with blondes and I'll be there.
