Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, February 22, 2013

Confidential internal disciplinary reports obtained by CNN reveal that the FBI has been dealing with employees who engaged in sexting -- sending sexually oriented photos and messages -- on their official Blackberry phones. "When you are given an FBI BlackBerry, it's for official use. It's not to text the woman in another office who you found attractive or to send a picture of yourself in a state of undress."

Fire all how were involved. Sorry but if you can't keep your d^ck in your pants or your t^ts in your shirt at work at the freaking FBI, frankly you do not possess the level of self controll need to be in the FBI.

They were all fired or suspended. It's to be expected when you put people into boring jobs. Funny stuff though.

Absolutely. I have ZERO tolerance for abuse of security.

What do these idiots not understand about the head of the CIA not being able to keep his affair a secret?

LMAO - ZERO tolerance for abuse of security? Really? [Shaking my head.] Post that from work?

Good luck. IF there is one thing you can be sure of is insecurity. Human nature is your problem.

I am responsible for it. I grant you there is a difference because this is the FBI and I am in a private corporation. I used to obsess about it. Everyone hates you for obsessing about it and addressing every little problem. Your stress levels sore. It comes to a point you have to choose your battles or go insane and frankly I am not paid enough to do that. So you have to figure out just what management will back you on, what is in the way of security and what is just not worth addressing. Issues are all the way through the chain - from the very top to the very bottom. Human nature...

Yep these were some immature buffoons. Yep they deserve to have their butts in a sling. But there will be a bunch to replace them soon. I'm personally not sure that this behavior actually warranted firing in today's age. The fact of the matter is people will treat electronic devices as their own - no matter what you tell them. Would it matter if they did it on their own phones? My personal philosophy is if you want me to carry a work phone and I can't use it as my own then I turn it off when I leave.

Regardless, I bet there are some IT guys with some good shots sitting out there somewhere.

BTW - that was more likely an HR violation than a security violation...

"...that was more likely an HR violation than a security violation..."

Probably. We have to deal with this all the time. Not so much "sexting", just people playing with their phones when we are paying them to, ah, work.

Some find it a difficult concept.

Perspective

No it was a personal violation of employees by the FBI. It had nothing to do with their work and it was not excessive use of company equipment since the equipment is capable of much more than it was used for.

And they're years behind. Why force your employees to carry both personal and work devices when they COULD use just 1 device for everything?

IF the employer is respectful of their employee's personal life everybody wins. Mine is and I'm glad not to have to have more phone numbers, more devices, and more BS like the poor workers at fbi sniffing each others phones... yuck.

I think they've left for a while so you can play on your own.

I have to side with the EMPLOYER (FBI) on this one. Lucky if they are not dismissed entirely. and they supplied you with the device. Just a complete disregard for a privileged position and job perks.

AuntieSocial without the device being available for both home/business use then what use is it?

For example, if its a matter of which device is nearby off hours guess which one it will be.

Or is this just for min-wage employees with FBI issued Obama phones?

It's pretty simple Rietze.

The company gives you a company phone to conduct company business.

They don't want you conducting company business on your personal phone and vice versa.

Some companies let you use your own phone at work, some do not.

Right Redial, employers that want to suck can. "Good employers" who THINK through the options WANT to own the ONLY device an employee uses and with therefore respect their employees' privacy.

Like what about the Facebook password question on an interview? Sure i might try it on a candidate for an engineering job... what would you answer?

IMHO unless the answer is "sorry but no" there's no way I'd hire such a person who disrespects their family and friends like that while lacking personal boundaries too. But intimidation being what it is, some would give it up... risking victimization of them and theirs, and other employeers want slaves more than thinking employees.

Got a phone restriction? Might better consider getting a better job.

If you don't like the rules at your company, no one forces you to stay.

I use my company phone when I am at work, and my personal phone when I am not.

I don't really see it being a big deal.

uh, number one, it is the motherfreaking FBI.

number 2, I had the same situation with a dot com company. personal stuff stays on my phone and company phone is for business.

I stand by what I said. Just an overall lack of respect. If I am paying for a phone or computer and internet I will be damned if I am going to keep someone on board that is jerking off or on facebook. in other words, NOT WORKING~!

welcome to reality.

Funny thing is we seldom fire someone for abusing the phone rules.

We fire them for lying about it later.
