Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Alex Kane, AlterNet: Since its inception, the war on terror has found numerous way to seep into many aspects of American life, and the latest is the Internet. As FireDogLake's DSWright points out, the White House is looking for ways to counter online speech that is "radical" and tied to terrorism. A White House statement released earlier this month states that "the Federal Government is committed to empowering members of the public to protect themselves against the full range of online threats, including online radicalization to violence."

As DSWright notes, what the government is saying is that "the internet is gaining in power and we have not figured out a way to dominate it yet." And that's scaring the government.

The groups involved in "online radicalization to violence" include, of course, Al-Qaeda and white supremacist groups. But it's not a stretch of the imagination to realize that trying to regulate the speech of extremists can bleed into regulating the speech of plain old law-abiding dissidents.

That anti-gay guy at DC Comics would be considered 'radical' by this White House.

You see you only have part of it, because the government is own by the corporations and banks.
So what you really have is banks and corporations controlled media

What do you think? Is Rcadian and his "moderation" policy a front man for Obungler's marginalization of free thought? Just think back. Remember all the invective and hatred thrown by the lefties toward Bushie and not a peep from the mature Bushie. But yet you have Obungler free from any MSM criticism and now intent on neutralizing the last bastion of free thought, the internet and the DR.

It's not impossible that he received one of those letters that he isn't allowed to acknowledge he received, the kind that libraries get asking for a person's borrowing history. It could have spooked him enough to institute more stringent policies in a cya effort as well as to keep the invitations to those D.C. Forums on the future of the Internet coming in. Plausible, though admittedly high speculation even if it fits what we do know.

You seem to have missed my point. Allow me to walk you through it. 1) A poster made a comment about this measure putting an end to the weather underground. 2) A subsequent poster quipped "In the past?" (because that group no longer exists and, therefore, cannot be targeted by current policies). 3) I then joked that most conservatives live in the past and that it is a promising sign that some of them have moved, at least, to the recent past (the 1960), as opposed to the more distant past ( Medieval Christendom, 1776, or any of the other time periods American rightists are wont to invoke). Do you follow?

As Howard Dean so poignantly states on the sequester; "Let it happen". Obungler is playing his usual nauseating games. He's whining since he's playing to his base (Danni, Corky) and probably doesn't care if it happens. Then he can pilate wash his hands of it and Danni and Corky can again absolve him of all guilt like in the past. It gives them a heart warming and feeling that he did his best.

Police say Lanza, 20, targeted Sandy Hook Elementary School because he believed it was the best place for him to shoot as many people as possible and rival the 77 lives claimed by Breivik in 2011.

Rather than the internet "scaring" government, it is scaring those corporatists who control government and both Parties. OWS scared them and Obama's string pullers. Even the Tea Party scared them before the corporate media marginalized them as racists. The Koch Bros then threw money at them and a net over them and reigned them in as somewhat controllable GOP puppets.

The real threat we face comes from the PTB that controls government....bankers, big media, Goldman, Fed, global multinationals, big energy, big pharma, i.e. they will represent the pillagers of our Social Security and 1st and 2nd Amendments for starters.
