Patti Reagan Davis's Eulogy to her father:
My father never feared death, he never saw it as an ending. When I was a child, he took me out into a field at our ranch after one of the Malibu fires had swept through. I was very small and the field looked huge and lifeless, but he bent down and showed me how tiny new green shoots were peeking up out of the ashes just weeks after the fire had come through. "You see," he said, "new life always comes out of death. It looks like nothing could ever grow in this field again, but things do."
He was the one who generously offered funeral services for my goldfish on the morning of its demise. We went out into the garden and we dug a tiny grave with a teaspoon and he took two twigs and lashed them together with twine and formed a cross as a marker for the grave. And then he gave a beautiful eulogy.
He told me that my fish was swimming in the clear blue waters in heaven and he would never tire and he would never get hungry and he would never be in any danger and he could swim as far and wide as he wanted and he never had to stop, because the river went on forever. He was free.
When we went back inside and I looked at my remaining goldfish in their aquarium with their pink plastic castle and their colored rocks, I suggested that perhaps we should kill the others so they could also go to that clear blue river and be free.

Thank you, sir. I've been tied up getting ready to switch our accounting system to SAP. If Hitler used this system to order military items in WWII, Poland would have kicked their butts.

SAP sucks. I carried crib notes for 2 years to negotiate it. You had to go through about 12 separate windows just to enter in laboratory data. It was the least user-friendly program I ever used.

I'm finding that out. We ran Purchase Orders today and the manufacturers part# isn't even listed, nor does it output a .pdf file to attach to email. I asked the SAP D. Bag if I needed to send out crystal balls to the suppliers so they would know what the hell I was buying.

I am still in Dell hell. They came out and replaced my motherboard, but now the hard drive is hopelessly corrupted and I'm making them send me an entirely new PC. It won't get here for eight friggin' days.
I am rebuilding my old PC so I can get back to work again this evening on the new Nooner and some other code improvements.

Hey RCADE, when did we go from moderation comments in the Nooner to contacting you directly by email?
A few weeks ago. DixvilleNotch turned every day's Nooner into an argument about moderation. Since a daily discussion is coming where users set the rules, I don't feel like fielding more public complaints about moderation.
Since you didn't know about the change, I removed your warning.

On the subject of Google Chrome, I have a question for the DR public. I always just come direct to drudge.com to get into verbal fistfights, but I'm not entirely certain that there aren't better interfaces, like RSS feeds, that I just don't know about. Any thoughts on the subject? What are you using?

Higgs Boson Particle May Spell Doom For the Universe. The mass of the new particle is about 126 billion electron volts, or about 126 times the mass of the proton. If that particle really is the Higgs, its mass turns out to be just about what's needed to make the universe fundamentally unstable, in a way that would cause it to end catastrophically in the far future.
The mass of the particle, which was uncovered at the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, is a key ingredient in a calculation that portends the future of space and time. The preliminary value leads to the prediction that many tens of billions of years from now there'll be a catastrophe. That's because the Higgs field is thought to be everywhere, so it affects the vacuum of empty space-time in the universe. If the Higgs mass were just a few percent different, the universe wouldn't be doomed.
There is, therefore, no point to anything. However, you are free to assign any meaning you want to life and yourself. Don't worry, be happy.

A lawyer phoned the governor's mansion shortly after midnight. "I need to talk to the governor, it's an emergency!" exclaimed the lawyer. After some cajoling, the governor's assistant agreed to wake him up. "So, what is it that's so important that it can't wait until morning?" grumbled the governor. "Judge Pierson just died, and I want to take his place," begged the attorney. "Well, it's OK with me if it's OK with the mortuary," replied the governor. ______________________________ __________________

John McCain was 71 in 2008. Hillary will be 69 in 2016. Women have a life expectancy five years longer than men in the U.S. It's possible she'll be young enough to handle the rigors of a presidential campaign and two terms.

Help? I hired a gentleman who is working on his second chance at life. Hes been in prison for the last 17 years. He is 6'9 and wears a Mens size 6X polo. He has no money. Any ideas? I tried Goodwill and a few cosignment shops without luck. Wal Mart & K Mart don't run sizes that large. Quick look on line shows they are very expensive. Any suggestions?

#37 Becuase I think second chances make a difference. I have two departments where we have the ability to train. I work with a male and female work release facility. They live there after prison (court ordered) take C.A.R.E. classes, budgeting, etc before they are released on probation. Over the years we (I and them) have enojoyed a 82% graduation rate.

Did you know that kids in this State in foster care that turn 18 and still in high school are tossed out of the foster care system? I work with the Homeless Student Coalition as well.
Both groups of people trying to make it and not become part of the problem a first time or a second time. Again the community comes through when we ask if they can.

I know Gracie. My mother and father were volunteer ambulance members. She was an EMT and he was an ECA. In the summers when we were kids she brought my sister and I along with her to deliver Meals on Wheels, also. She did it b/c it needed to be done, but also just for the reward of doing it. You can learn a lot by volunteering that way. The most poingant memory is delivering a hot meal to a homebound lady and sticking it in the fridge for her. The only thing that was ever in it was a half can of dog food. And there was no dog.

I use the same, but a wee bit larger font wouldn't hurt me any. Text lines seem to be a mile long the way they are.
